Hello all, Just Looking for expert and novice opinions on premium quality / ease of application automotive acrylic paint brands, Local supplier here only sells Spartan, i was leaning more towards DuPont or Dulux brands personally . i would like to hear of peoples choices and experiences applying acrylic paints

Personally I don't like Dupont. I don't believe it is a true Acrylic Lacquer it doesn't smell right and thinning ratios are different to normal acrylics and it goes on different to an Acrylic. Also with Dupont I have been told and maybe wrongly that you buy it as a pigment and then specify wether you want it as acrylic or two pac and the right binder is then added of course if two pac you still need the hardener. I would go PPG (old Dulux). Spartan is very good, I haven't had much to do with Protec but the little I have had to do with it it seems fine just don't know about holdout, uv charecteristics and longevity.Hope this helps
Cheers Dave

i have used ppg (duliux) in the past and find it very good and easy
protec is sposed to have come along in leaps and bounds in the last ten years so you could use that
(i haven't....well an enemel job 15 years ago)
haven't heard anything bad with spartan or dupoint either
motorspray/hi chem is the cheap and nasty brand atm

I sprayed my LJ in Protec acrylic the first time around, it lived out in the elements for about three years and was fine.

The Protec 2k i paint machinery in holds out exceptionally well. Theres a couple of rigs that were painted in America, sent here, i did a few touchups, and three years later the bits i sprayed in Protec look like the day i did them but the rest is faded and generally #@$^%&.

Hope this helps a bit also.

Cheers.
