Ive noticed on my LH SL/R Dash, that it has a raised edge that appears that it was silver once upon a time? Would I be correct in thinking that?

If so, has anyone re-painted this edge? What colour should it be? How did you paint it? Brush/spray?

Everyone uses a silver paint pen, try your local newsagent or officeworks.
Cheers Mick.

It was actually a chrome type finish from my understanding. I'm sure some of the "experts" here may second guess me, but i have here a genuine NOS Torana ashtray & the stenciling appears to be chrome to me.

As stated above, a silver paint pen can be used to re-stencil the bordering. If you are after the concourse factory original finish, Dash Original in S.A restore the original chrome finish but i've been told it is expensive & there is a long waiting list. He didn't even reply to my email enquiring about his services, but i believe his work is very very good so it maybe something for you to consider. Cheers Matt

Yes Matt is 100% correct in that the original factory finish was chrome. If you want to spend an absolutely silly amount of money on your dash then yes, places like Dash Original can redo the chrome plating. Second best option is the silver paint marker which while is pretty close, its not perfect.
Cheers Mick.

Cool. I think I'll try the silver pen. I'd rather not risk sending the dash away...

i did an xw gt dash a few years ago and bought a can of decorative chrome painted the areas that needed it didnt have to worry about overspray.then i waited till it was fully dry them masked it up with the thin blue masking tape then sprayed the rest of it with the argent silver grey call it what you will.
the only reason i did it this was this appeared to be how the factory did it.
and the bloke that did it wanted over 800 wtf???
i also did the ss door trims in my hdt replica the same way just cleaned all the flaky plastic off masked up sprayed along the piping .magic.
but silver pen gives the desired effect in the torana

I haven't done anything with my dash yet... The silver has been done with silver paint pen. That's all good and sorted. I can't put the dash in until the wiring is back in and that can't happen until the engine bay is painted.....one thing after the next....

Reading this Quote makes me laugh! I think we are fortunate that a business like Dash Original exists to restore dash panels. Alot of Trimmers/dash businesses who restore interiors will not attempt this process because of the cost involed and time spend/materials/wages with restoring parts. For example the materials used on an LX SL/R-SS dash panels would be - cleaning products for plastic, products for repairs to broken/missing parts,paint- plastic premier, under coat and top coat paint. Then the time to clean/fix/mask/paint/stencil heater and fan icons to the parts so the dash panels are in perfect condition when finished. I am sure the people that Dash original employ to restore examples like this are skilled and want wages that reflect their work efforts. I have used Dash Original several times when restoring my interiors and I have loved everything they have done! The amount work they can offer classic/muscle car owners is great. Hence why you wait for parts/interiors they restore due to their work load, small work force of skilled tradesman and they tackle the harder jobs that others turn away! Give them credit.

I think that it goes without saying that I too, would plug their business and use it myself several times over and be completely satisfied if I were the owner's son as well!

Cheers Mick.

Totally agree I stand to be corrected but all the work that Dash Original has done for me is first rate and the price charged had zero bearing on my decision. (I.E. don't like it DIY or find someone else). I would far rather the job is done right than shop at places like Rare Spares who for the majority just sell rubbish that is very obviously not right. People just want cheap and when these same fools end-up spending double trying to fix up the cr#p they whine about how bad it was. Look at the horror of Mr Spares, UPC, Tony Edwards and read about all the tales of woe just because someone was trying to save a few dollars by shopping with this business. How many times and how fussy are you? Thank god for companies like Dash Original that although slow and very frustrating in completing it to any schedule at least have pride and care enough do a top job.
