Well, this followed me home a few weeks ago. Must have a good missus as she agreed we should keep it. She's not usally that kind to strays.

It's not overly rusty from what we can see but I'm sure there's a fair bit we can't see happening somewhere. Interior is original & needs tidying up, has original JP block & the Strommies.

We are thinking about a full blast & rebuild back to as original, without being too over the top with originality.

We are a bit undecided what to tackle first. The paint is a bit mismatched, but I can't see the point in blowing another coat of paint over it to even it up & then when the dreaded white ants appear do it again. If we decide to just tidy up the interior your halfway there to a dismantle by removing the interior to tidy it up.

The motor breathes pretty heavily & I have a mates old man who has built numorous 202's for speedway & he's keen to get his hands that JP block. :) And while the engines out you may as well tidy up the engine bay & restore the heater box assy, wiper motor & on it goes.

The other half likes things to be done right so we will probably do it all once & do it right. But then I can't drive it when it's in the panel shop.

Whinging bugger, aye? Not a bad problem to have, I suppose, what should we do to our XU1? LOL!

Here's a pic of the garage atm. The shed is getting an extension

Looks very nice in the pics. I'd say drive it until the little things start to really piss you off. Then restore it.

Agree 100%

Lots of guys restore cars to brand new and then get too precious and don't use them except to park and look at.

Flog it till you've had enough and then restore it.

So, we got a panel guy teed up, got a painter teed up. Stripped old goldy, got it soda blasted. Showed the panel man & ordered what we will need, blew a coat of etch primer over it.
Rang the panel man this morning to see when he wanted it & he now tells me he's not confident in doing a job on the old girl I will be happy with! WTF!!
Wish he had told me that in the beginning.
The only other fella with any talent here has a 12 month wait.
So now I have a shed full of dismantled XU1 that I can't drive. Grrr.

Beater.
Replace front guards, sills, bottom rear 1/4s, bottom front of doors, top of door skin on one door, spare wheel well, l/h boot floor, r/h A pillar work, a bit of window frame work, front & rear valance.
Not much :-)

You got one up your sleeve Welby?

nope, just a good painter.

actually have a beater , won't recomend him though on account of his pace vs hourly rate. Quality work, no doubt, but he is slower than a wet week.
He's doing the monaro and the hours are ticking over like no tomorrow.

Quality work, give him that

All this fella does is rust repairs. But I guess he's more bog and flog. Not restore.
At least he told me up front & not half way through.

Righto, thought I might update this. A bits happened over the last 2 & a bit years...

The blasting. Won't waste my money on soda blasting for a resto again. Get stuck into with sand or something like that 1st up.
