:iagree:

What is the full story? Did it have just normal diff oil in it before you drained and re-filled with LSD oil?
If so it will take a while for the noise to dissappear.

I think maybe one wheel was in the gravel and the other on the bitumen. The brain forced the right foot down very hard for to long. Then loud bang and spider gear started losing teeth ????

Pull it out, look at it. Only way really to be sure. No use trying to guess. it's not a big job and a good learning experience.

First guess would be it has a Detroit locker (or similar) in there.

Hey Girls and Guys, I sent the 5ltr and the T10 box off for a rebuild. I dropped the oil out the diff, its a 9inch lsd. There were no problems prior. But after all was done , I noticed a binding noise from the diff. The noise is only when I turn (left or right). I did mark the tail shaft but didn't think to look for the mark when re installed. First I used Tanoa 80w-90 mineral gear oil API GL-5. I removed the diff and it all looked good but I am no expert. So I re installed the diff and used Brad Penn multi purpose gear oil SAE 80W-90 but its still binding. Can anyone give some advice . Rainman .

Thanks in advance

Hi

Try LS90 or LS85/140 for HD use. 85/90 is good for an open center but not for a LS diff. the LS is the important part.

Is it an LSD or Trutrac? Trutracs you must not use LSD oil. It has to be a 85/140 mineral oil. Not synthetic!

Hey Gerry, its an lsd. Have dropped the oil and replaces with Castrol 85W-140 Axle lsd but still grabbing but not binding. Will this go away after a few weeks ? Does it need a good run to heat up ect ? Ray
