Its been a while since an update. Ive been ticking along. One thing people may find of interest is the restoration of the faces of my instruments. Mine had begun to develop surface rust, so I had the instruments refurbished and the tacho converted to digital for the new MSD dizzy.

I got some decal copies of the original SS instruments from HIT300 on Ebay. Their decals were a lot more expensive than others but they looked a bit better than others I have seen and the vinyl itself is thick enough for removal without stretching should they need to be tweaked during installation.

Heres a pic of some of the surface rust on one of the faces.

I started by sandblasting the and painting the old faces.

The gauges themselves were rebuilt by NEW England instrument makers. Good to deal with.

All up I can recommend the decals - they look very similar to the original painted gauge faces.

Got hold of some 16x8.5 & 16x7 V5 Simmons. I think they will suit the car but I'm a bit shocked at the reduction in size availability for 16 inch

Tyres these days - looking at 245/45/16 for the rear and 225/45/ 16 fro the front - if they will fit see how we go...

If anyone can help: I want to change the rear offset. I need 4" outer & 4 or 4.5" inner rims. I can swap the present 3" outer & 5.5" inner if required

Found a set of rims, they are on their way....

Suttons Holden Homebush Bay, Sydney do Dulon paint codes for anyone that is interested. I had them mix up some Camois Vinyl paint for the backs of my seats.

Previously I had sprayed one of my seat backs Chamois 15950 (UC? colour), its the first photo - next to an original Dulon 17214 seat back - as you can see its too grey - I would call it.

Next shot is the 17214 Original factory colour next to the Suttons 17214 (on the right). Came up OK I thought

Don't really know if the angles are correct and I'm not too sure how to find out, except to drive it and see if there were any vibrations.

I have a vague plan of adding adjustable upper trailing arms if there is a problem...

I've the Tremec to within  a few mm of the trans tunnel, can't go any higher without cutting or heating and stretching. I'm not keen to modify the tunnel.

I have torana mounts in at present but they made very little difference compared to the HQ mounts. In the end a set of Hurricane headers made all  the difference compared to the Pacemakers which drop down unnecessarily low on the drivers side (every pair of pacemaker tri-y to early head i've fitted were the same).

I suppose a compas on the face of the diff yoke and the gearbox input shaft face may also give me an indication of angles...?

TREMEC have an app you can load onto your phone. You rest it on the engine/gearbox/drive shaft. It calculates the angles and gives you a pass or fail. Search in the play store for "TREMEC Toolbox".

Wasn't too bad in many areas Danny but did have some issues... lower rear quarters, around the hatch, bonnet hinge areas, plenum chamber and rear passenger floor where the rats had camped while in storeage

That is just beautiful, it's like seeing a naked supermodel!

So tell us more... who did you get to do it, what did they use, and if it's not too rude a question, how much?

Also, how long do you have to get the bare metal sealed before it starts to rust? Or do they re-dip it in some kind of sealer?

Obviously dipping cleans EVERYWHERE including inside all those hard-to-reach cavities, so I'd be worried about getting some protection into all those areas ASAP if it was me.

You might be overstating the case there Andrew, but I get the drift...

Redistrip in Blacktown, Sydney did the stripping. Its a several part process using Alkaline strippers. Can't remember the detail, but I think there is info on their website. I know they pressure wash once the paint has been removed and put it in a neutraliser for an extended period of time. There is a clear phosphorus coating on the finished product that will last a long time if the vehicle is kept very dry but will begin to rust very quickly if water gets upon the surface. I know a fella up my way with a 69 Mustang that has been sitting in this Phosphorus coating for about 5 years). Redistrip does countless cars. There was a procession of interesting cars in the shop each time I visited. I've been watching them and asking questions

It was a little while ago now, but from memory it's about $2500 for a medium shell. Maybe $500 each for doors etc. I think it cost $4500. A lot i Know but my car had been sitting for a while and it would have been very difficult to get the finish I was after through other means.

The car has been kept dry and is now in an epoxy coating with the body work being undertaken. When its painted I go through it with a 'runny" corrosion inhibitor and get it in all the seams that paint doesn't reach.
