Thanks Jonesy. I love the colour too. Royal Plum Metallic. Didn't like it when I was young...wanted midnight blue, hand flared guards and a mid mounted big block alloy Hemi!

How thing change.

Looking great mate! It’s an awesome feeling seeing that colour on for the first time. Best of luck with the rest of the build, look forward to future progress shots.

Thanks Mark. Its come out just right. A few paint details to correct then home. I should pick up a box of stuff from the electroplaters in the next couple of days.

Then the long process of putting it back together... i had all the bolts and screws identified in bags but of course they have to be removed to plate. I'm using all original bolts and screws etc. I remember where most of them go, off-by-heart these days, but i'm sure i'll struggle with a few.

Heres some photos of an original torana fuel tank from an ADR27A car. It was from a hatch that had the tank removed and replaced with a droptank....maybe 30 years ago. Shows what I think are original factory spray patterns of black on the tank edges. I've used KBS products to clean and line the tank...the internal photo is from my panelvan tank that i cut and installed an internal electric fuel pump, it gives an indication of some of the corrosion that begins to develop. I cleaned and lined that tank also.

On a different note, I contacted Holden Historical Services to get some info on my cars history. Seems that it was not sold new through a Holden dealer but used as a

NSW Public Relations Vehicle and sold off later as an ex-company car.

Would be interesting to know exactly what that means. I suppose it's an eye catching car with the Royal Plum Metallic paint and the Chamois Chevron interior, Air-con and Automatic, SS badges etc..not a bad car to show-uff in a mall or for a rep to visit dealerships....

Anybody familiar with the way these cars would have been used?

Slowly putting a few thing together. Cleaned up the brake light switch and assembled the plenum scuttle - hadn't understood that there are two different lengths for the bonnet lace, but mine is about 705mm long. Not quite sure what the correct screws for the washer/jets are...

Heres a photo of the foot brake cleaned up and next to another as an example of what it used to look like. I soaked it in molasses and water for a few days and it cleaned right up. Then coated it in Henkel to offer a little protection and sprayed the pedal. Came up pretty good I thought.

Looking good. What ratio are you using on the molasses, 1:10?

I’ve been using citric acid then hit with pressure washer. Then get WD40 on it straight away otherwise surface rust appears almost instantly. Not so crucial with galvanised bits. Just takes the dirt and rust. Doesn’t hurt acrylic or chrome etc. Does shift cheap enamel.

It was either 1:10 or 1:20, can’t quite remember. I leave the bucket without a lid so it’s evaporated and is probably more like 1:5! Also it’s now growing algae, so it’s pretty weird stuff bitystill works. As you say takes of cheap enamel. I’ve used it on heaps of parts, works really well.

Time for a belated update. Things slowed for a while. May pick up a little....

I've rebuilt the parking brake. Came up quite well. The comparison photo shows what the restored one looked like before I soaked it in

molasses and painted it up.

Attached File  IMG_8888 (1).jpg   65.39K   8 downloads

Heres a few bits I've painted or assembled.

Attached File  IMG_8887 (1).jpg   41.95K   5 downloads

Attached File  IMG_8801 (1).jpg   59.12K   5 downloads

This one is in the process of installing the windscreen. I find telstra rope fits in the rubber well. A bit of WD-40 helps also.

Over the last few days I've installed the headlining and some of the vinyl trims...starting to look a little less agricultural.
