Ive had my UC for about 15yrs, but for the last 6 its been unlicensed and slowly rusting in the driveway. Now I've finally got around to restoring it so here goes...
It had a 253 and trimatic (although originally 4cyl starfire) but I've lined up a VP 5lt and T700 for it, which will be fitted at a mates workshop once the engine bay is tidied up and painted. Then its off for P&P and a new interior.
Here it is looking sad in the driveway -

And the engine bay, mostly stripped and ready for rust repairs and a few mods -

The steering arms and rack have been removed to make way for one of Axistr's P/S racks. Other planned mods include a Commo V8 booster and 1'' m/c, battery swapped to rh side of engine bay (efi airbox goes in the original battery spot), full length 2 1/4'' twin exhaust, body will be sprayed the same colour - Subaru Mica blue, and for all those that hate UC's with flares guess what?... it's getting flares :P

Good to see another Perth person. Love your plans! If you're going that far why not shove a dry cell battery in the boot?

No one hates flared UC's, they hate UC's tail lights.

Actually some of us think UC's look funny with flares.

Not all of them, and not from all angles, but some do.

I'm sure this one will look awesome!Posted Image

Sounds like a good project if you need any pics of flared uc's for ideas i have plenty as i.was planning on doing the same thing

Also they look better without the front spoiler as all the ones ive seen look very tacky with flares

Cheers Dan, I thought about a battery in the boot but I don't mind it in the engine bay and I think it'll be easier when I wire up the new motor.
There's a few flared UC haters out there Posted Image

Thanks Josh, my brother dropped those parts off, they'll come in handy. You cant see it in the pics but my bonnet's a bit dinged up at the front.

I like this one, WA plates too... Nice
Posted Image

It looks like the transition from flare to front spoiler doesn't match up right on UC's, which makes them look shit. I've done some work fitting spoilers and if I get one it will at least fit properly. I don't really like hornet scoops either.
Anyway, here's some familiar rust holes that need patching over the next week or two:

And the battery tray -

Time to get the mig out....

Flares look alright with the right wheels, If i could afford 15x10's id chop my car up for flares. Its a very bad bad look with small wheels, pretty common too. T700 and 5L will be nice.

You're right Nathan, I wont be going smaller than 14x8's but I'm hoping to find some 10'' Hotwires or similar to fill the rear guards out. Just missed a set of 9 1/4's on ebay the other day :fool:

Finished up fitting the power steering today. Had to dismantle the rag coupling and reassemble it with the new spline fitting -
Posted Image
I could only get a nolathane kit so I'll need to find a heat shield so the extractors don't melt it. Also I used the original washers as the ones in the nolathane kit looked shit. Then we fit the rack, it went straight on like it was made for it, perfect! I cant wait to finish the rest of it just so I can park it somewhere
Posted Image
I couldn't put the wheels back on yet because the front calipers are a bit seized up, the piston wouldn't slide back to go over the new pads. I'll take them to the workshop tomorrow and get a kit put through them.

Cheers Ben, I was really happy with how it fitted.
This pic is for Statler  who sent me a heat shield so the nolathane doesn't turn into red goo...
Posted Image

We got on with some rust work today, just cutting it out and making patches. Hopefully we'll have time to weld it all up tomorrow. I didn't take many pics, but here's one of the battery tray -
Posted Image

I thought I'd better give some credit to my partner Kelly, because she's been getting greasy and doing a lot of work on the 'bird. She's as big a Torana nut as me :buttrock:

We've sprayed the blackout areas in the engine bay and primed the rest, except the bonnet hinge patches. I'm waiting for my slacker brother to come back and finish welding them :banghead:
Posted Image

So while waiting we sanded and rust killed the floor (bit of pitting but no holes :spoton: )
Posted Image

And then sprayed on some sound deadener to seal it up

Probably not
But I won't use a Nolathane anything unless I have no other choice
