AFAIK Monaros had the same drums as other HK-HG Holdens, which is the same basic drum as HQ-WB just with a different stud pattern. Every HK-HG Monaro I have ever had including 253 and 307/308 examples have had standard drums. Even my HK-HG GTS's are the same.
I agree with yel327.
From my experience you are more likely to find this type of drum on 6cyl HK T G than any V8 4 speed 10 bolt cars.
As for these 'finned' style drums, most have a horseshoe cut out on the mounting face but some don't. Some also have a number of external steel weights spot welded to them.
No Horseshoe cut out

Go to the Menu, Click on Bathurst 1973 and watch for a few minutes and the HDT LJ XU-1 pulls up, i think its Peter Brock HDT XU-1, the HDT Mechanics pull the Drivers side rear wheel off, get ready with your pause button, and you will see the HDT Cooling Fins, they were made by A.B.S in Adelaide, they made 10 Pairs up for Harry Firth's HDT Workshop, i believe Harry might of ran them on the HDT Rally Cars as well as the HDT Race Cars etc, i believe Harry had them on the HDT Monaros back in the Day, The Monaro Cooling Fins are 10" and the LJ Torana ones are 9" ones

The C.A.M.S rules state that brakes can be changed as long as the friction area does not change.
Bear in mind that two version Toranas were used, street versions, and race specials.
Given that 14's sprintmasters were available at the time and that there have been reports of Monaro front brakes ( same friction area ) wrere used, it is not a big leap to see that the Monaro rear brakes could have been used ( they may have had to shorten the shoe friction material )
There are many differences between street version XU-1's, Holden built race versions and race team built XU-1's
These differences seem to include;
Camshaft,
Brakes,
reduced body deadening,
Different colour fuel tank cover,
Rim widths and diameters and
Engine specs
There will be more, perhaps a seperate topic would be appropiate.

else got from A.B.S in Adelaide. They would of been casted in SG Iron (Sperodialgraphite Iron as used
in Crankshafts) Harry would of used the SG Iron to make them lighter in weight than the run of the
mill A.B.S Cooling Fins that every one else used, the Old Fox

guy that bought A.B.S out, but he worked for A.B.S for years, he told me about HDT getting made up
a batch for the HDT Monaro's and the HDT LJ xu-1's etc, there were 10 pairs made up for the HDT LJ's

Or are there heaps of them around the place?

than the average Cooling Fins, so less weight means GO Faster for the HDT LJ's, one of Harry many trick
lol
A.B.S in Adelaide would of made up a few for say Taxi's and Caravan's and sounds like HT-HG Kingswood etc
Harry just got his made lighter for racing

Hi .Did any of the 1973 Bathurst xu1 race cars run rear finned brakes of the HT HG or HK monaros?
Yeah I know it's an old thread.
Here's that screen shot of Brocks RHR brake drum from the 1973 Bathurst 1000 video footage.

Not sure about the factory cars. but others were taking advantage of the freedoms regarding brakes.

The HDT cars definitely had them in '73 and so did two other teams.

I saw a race car (LJ Torana) in January that was using an alloy version. I think that they were from a Nissan or something. The rear end of this car was far from std and I can't remember the details unfortunately. Maybe I should have listened better.
Google Datsun alloy brake drums and check out some images. That'll get you started in the right direction.

not sure mate...but if so hope they are lighter ..the ones I posted are just on 1kg heavier than stock.
That seems reasonable considering the extra metal involved in the casting.
