I remember that, I thought it was called S.H.A.D.O.

I was quite young at the time.

Its making me feel old, seeing those pictures. The great thing about the 60's was it was the start of innovation and dreaming. When we walked on the moon it floored me, it seemed like we could do anything (it was quite unbelievable). I think this was one of the key achievements that made us dare to dream of how we would get around in 50 years time. George Jetson might just become a reality.

I still can't stop thinking about where we would have been in local car design had GMH not listened to its penny pinchers with the GTR-X. Look at the LH, ..... it took racing to bring us the L34 and ultimately the A9X. Without racing real cars we would have never been able to buy the GTS350, XU-1, L34, A9X. What an era the 60's and 70's where for lovers of tough individual cars. You could never mistake a Holden,Fraud or Chrysler no matter how far away they where parked.

I remember seeing futuristic images of how we'll be living in the year 2000. People wore Ace Frehley style space suits and travelled in tubes to and from cities that were covered in glass domes.

i think i use to watch that show as a young fella,

imagination and my dreams back then, were triggered from shows like that

one thing that freaked me as a youngen was the moon walking in 69, i was 5years old,the space helmets with the black screen freaked me out ,as i thought some kind of alien was in the blackness.

You couldn't without GUILT put the Torana name on that thing (TT36). Now something along the pillar-less style of a smaller mid sized 60 series (with a hot supercharged LS9 version) would be a proud Torana badge carrying vehicle.

Always the big selling point of the Torana was it wasn't full sized (wheelbase, track, weight) but yet packed the same 5litre engine as the HQ-HZ.

Sorry, you'd have no guilt putting TORANA onto a two door Commonwhore????
The TT36 engine would have taken that thing past anything the current breed of v8s could throw at it.
Now the TT42 (based on the 4.2L ecotec made in Canada) would have been the business..........and that design is currently on the showroom floor with puss box 4pot engines.........

I'm a two door only man. Anything else is a boring taxi to me. Not a fan of late designs. I'm not saying a copy of the 60 but from a modern design standpoint I actually like the profile of the 60. The TT is just not my cup of tea. Its not about anything other than the look. I am more a Viper than Ferrari type. That's why the A9X hatch was my choice as a teenager. Each to their own .... just like the many variations of modified Torana's that we see on this forum.

Awesome pics of this great car. I remember seeing it at Fishermans Bend back in the late 1990s when it was silver. I was lucky enough to sit in it but couldn't help think it was a shame to see it in silver. Its great they have restored it.

He was saying you couldn't put on the Torana badge 'without guilt'.

To me it looks like they had the car, thought about how they were going to sell it, saw the Monaro was doing a good revival and decided to imitate rather than innovate.

Sad really. I wonder why it hasn't been put into production, I can't see them getting any positive feedback on that one.

Sure when the LC came out it was short for 'little car' but to paint that thing pink and designing it without any balls just screams they're trying to target the 'girls car' market.

With a twin turbo v6...I want one of those girls :D

That said, I hate the car as a Torana, but if they called it something else and built it (and didn't paint it pink), surely a mid-sized twin turbo v6 would sell.

Most people know that the Ford GT40 was called so because from the ground to the top of the roof was 40 inches

Anyone have a clue about the same measurement on the Hurricane?

Looks damn close !!

I don’t know, the Torana did come from a Vauxhall and grew into some very nice cars. If this had of been the start of the Torana comeback, which in my opinion is an awesome start, imagine what it would have looked like 1 or 2 models down the line.
