Cheers

Depends on the dizzy and engine mounts

It doesn't actually NEED cutting on alot of cars

I'm sure pics are pending from those that have though

if you plonk the motor in without the dizzy on it you would be able to get a better measurment than just from pic's.

I have always cut the lip behind the dizzy with a Small or BBC (have done about 12). Better too much room than not enough.

I'm sure there are pics in my thread. Its the area just below the middle tag.

Will take another pic later today if you like.

Did you just trim the rain gutter back flush Andrew or have you taken some of the firewall out also ??

As you can see there is heaps of room and it is not neccessary to go to this extreme.

I cut the lip right off then use a large cold chisel to tap the plenum back, almost flush with the firewall (there is almost a full inch of overhang here standard). I then lean in from behind (through the wiper cowl/plenum) and weld it from the inside. Lay another bead on the outside that you can sand back to look good. I then tapered the lip off from nothing to the full width on both sides.

The firewall as pictured will accommodate a BBC, should I ever want to go that way. For a SBC you really only need to grind/cut the lip off and weld it up.
