don holland told me when he worked at max wright motors nsw (kingswood)they where fitting 308 to xu1's brand new or you could order them aswell thru this dealer

That sounds reasonable,in the US Don Yenko was doing mods to comaro,s,known as ( Yenko comaro,s )so i couldn,t see why a dealer here couldn,t do the same.Very interesting.

This LJ was fitted with a 308 around 1978 using Holden engineering as it was done by one the GMH Engineering Mechanics. Car Purple and had twin white racing stripes through the bonnet roof and boot. Unfortunately I didn't take a pic of it installed, or if I did its now lost.

I know of a red LJ GTR that Patterson Chenny ordered from GM without a drive line and it was Factory Plated L31 and M21 Box, the Car was Ordered that way to be built into a race car for Peter Brock, as he was about to start driving for Bill Patterson in 74. Once the XU2 Project was scraped the Car was fitted out with the Drive line and sold though the Patterson Dealer Ship in Ringwood and sold to a guy that lived in Tullamarine, It was then sold in the early 80" s to Paul Briva lived in Fitzroy, he owned the Car for about 10 years, During that time Paul almost wrote the car of a Accident on Bell st were he ran into the back of a Gemini at 100 MPH Killing one of the passengers, The LJ has repaired 2 years later after paul got his licenes back, About 12 month after that it was sold to one of Pauls Mates Larry Donohue,The Cars Rego was LJ 308, I dont know where it is today but it is out there somewere.

You could find it that way but when the car has smashed the Cops removed that Plates that they where lost, but it has re regoed so there will be records of it

During that time Paul almost wrote the car of a Accident on Bell st were he ran into the back of a Gemini at 100 MPH

Hi Al, what is interesting is that RXR 049 is currently registered in SA today, it is listed as Holden, Sedan, Orange, with an expiry date of 12/06/2012, could this be the same car. Frank Ceravolo's registratiion number RYY 829 is listed as Holden, Sedan, Silver, but is unregistered. This registration number is not available to be purchased, which means it must have been registered on the vehicle within the last 5 years.
My factory red LJ XU1 came to SA from Victoria in 1983 with a 253 V8 & Aussie 4 speed. V8 appeared to have been fitted for a long time. Don't know anything about it's history either, but am searching.

Hi Al, the info that you have managed to hunt down is most interesting. If you look carefully at the rear of RXR 049 you can see a large Aunger sticker to the left of the fuel filler, next to the LH tailight, so Aunger could have been involved somehow. They were an Adelaide company, so it's quite possible. The article on RXR 049 says that this was a " one only special ", so what about the 5, or was this the first one, & then some more were done.
I do not beleive mine to be one of these as my car is a genuine XU1 built in Brisbane. From what I have searched out was sold new by Beazley & Bruce in Canberra. I spoke to their general sales manager from 1973 & he said they were not involved with putting V8s into LJ Toranas. Thats all I know about my car, except that it found its way to Victoria & then eventually to SA in 1983 with the V8. When or why it scored the V8 I do not know.
