A mate of mine has what looks like a factory v8 sump with a rear hump that has a series of 3 baffles inside . I wanted him to sell it to me but he wants to keep it for his project. He seems to think it is from a 253 hx red motor . I have doubts that it is an early sump but could someone shed some light on a good/the best factory sump to use. I may try to get some pics. I want to get one to replace the crappy baffleless Torana v8 sump i have on it now.

i have a common whore vk/l sump with a windage tray and baffles round the pick up
looks standard
i had a hq-z v8 one that was modified deeper with a standard bottom sump and pick up welded on to give it more capacity
sadly i sold that motor to a mate....who had it stolen :(

yeah , i have a feeling it might be an early commodore sump that someone stuck on a dirty old hx red motor, did they have a rearward sump though ?? and was it rearward enough to clear a Torry xmember.

Commodore sump won't fit a Torana.

Heads and block should be red if it is a VK HDT Group A Brock motor.

I had a VK calais which had what was called a 334 pack, which meant is was a manual 308 and went to HDT for a few extras such as headers and bilstein suspension. The motor was basically stock but all manual VK 308's had the B cast heads and the sump had some baffles and also there was a plate bolted to the bearing caps, think that was called a scraper? My motor was black same as all VK's

My first SS which was a factory built L31 November 75 car in Papaya had a baffled sump from factory. I was the third owner and first to pull engine down. Could not believe my eyes. WTF were the words that come out of my mouth. That car had a chasis number ALX000037M or something like that. Could of been the car on the front of the Motor Manual Mag bag then. Press Release car maybe!
My current SLR5000 which is a Jan 76 car did not have a baffled sump!
