Does anyone know where to get new Hatch gas struts or do you need to get someone to recondition them?
Mine have lost their lift and it will look a little ugly with a broom handle holding the hatch up!

Those interchange to a number you can find here...can get them at rock auto for under $15 each in other brands. I might order a couple and see how they go..mine are a little weak actually as well. (not too bad, just when it's real cold out)

How much were the new ones there? (just curious to compare against the ones here...assuming they work properly)

Well, the first ones I got were not the go....too weak to hold the hatch up. I found some other ones though with a higher weight rating and were the perfect length, and work perfectly.

Just bought a pair of ML1222 (very similar dimensions to ML1214 but more force), they fit straight on and look the same as the originals other than the clips. Best part is that even with the spoiler they start to lift the hatch once its half open! If you don't have a spoiler probably better off sticking with the ML1214 but otherwise these are magic.

edit: oh and for suppliers who don't understand part numbers, the application is Laser KC, KE hatch (for both the above)

As per my post above, Monroe ML1222 (or equivalent other brand) are a straight fit with no issues, and offer significantly more force. My hatch will lift itself up from just past horizontal, with the spoiler. I had a couple of sets of originals, the best pair would sometimes hold it when fully up on a hot day but mostly useless.

Do you have more pics of your car? I like that cage setup, and it looks like you hav individual seats in the rear?

You should be able to take your strut and have the pressure uped. Where I bought mine from have them sitting there empty, then gas them for you while you wait. They can defiantly change the pressure.
Only problem is my guy is in Melbourne, but they do exist. Look up "strut re gas" on google and make some calls.

Hope that helps

I have just fitted new Monroe ML 1222 struts to a friends hatch. They work very well and keep the hatch with spoiler up no problems.
They are so stiff I needed a helper to hold the hatch up at full extension to get them in!

They replaced a pair of tired Toyota Tokico WK2 struts.

Only snag was that the Tokico ones have captive pivot balls. Fortunately they are the correct size to work with the new Monroe ones. Just sectioned their holder to get them out.

The cheapest I could find the ML 1222 was $82 for a pair.
