What do people usually pay for zinc plating? I just had 97 bolts/washers/nuts plated for $330. I had bead blasted each and every item before hand and were taken in clean and bare. Just curious to how that cost stacks up against what others have paid?

I would have thought new ones could have been purchased for less than the prices quoted.

Some of the bolts used on the Torana are difficult if not impossible to match for a restore.

Yeah it was all the bolts n bits from the K-Frame, some things can be bought but yeah others you just cant buy it new...

This is a quote from another forum Im on:

Last one was last year, 80 dollars got you everything you could fit in a 20 litre bucket which is an awful lot. Sorry for your loss...

There's two types of electroplaters. One wires each piece( be it nut, bolt, bracket or casting) ony a wire and drops it individually into solutions.
The other puts them all in 20 litre bucket batches into mesh baskets and washes them through the solutions that way.
One takes lots of time and money, the other costs 80 bucks. Both give great results, the expensive option is needed for larger or more intricate jobs.

I appreciate the effort you are going to but will never understand for the life of me why someone would not want to improve their car.

Im sorry, I dont quite catch your drift? Are you saying you dont understand why Im restoring the car back to original?

I can only say this, Ive built a few cars over the years and modified them to how I wanted them. I found that building a car that way is pretty easy, as I know what I want and know how it should be done to suit me.

However I wanted to give myself a bit more of a challenge and build something back to how it was originally,. to the tastes of the manufacturer. This is a lot harder then it seems when you have no history playing with or building that type of car.

I hope this explanation answers some questions you may have with my build?

I fully understand how and why you would do it.
My point being.. meh doesn't matter what I think, good luck with the build and can't wait to see it finished.

Is it a Janes Kit? I most likely could have bought a kit with the money I just spent...

Brad, are you happy with the quality / finish of the goods? if so best to put it down to "they did a fantastic job" otherwise it will be just another thing that frustrates the shizen out of ya.
we all know how frustrating the process is, and feel ya pain.

cheers.

Yeah prob 95% of the nuts bolts turned out really well. The other 5% is ok. I think next time I'll send them away to someone who does barrel zinc plating.
