i do remember a car being silver but originaly being SMP, think the car was at XU1s on the mountain 10 years ago. or it was being talked about at that event. id say its this same car as pretty sure was a QLD carHi,
I don't post much, but log in from time to time. I am an ex XU1 owner & still have a soft spot for them. As fate would have it I was looking for some old papers & some of my old torana info was there. I purchased the car in Feb 85 & sold it in mid to late 90's. I stripped the car back & the original colour was stike me pink . Was yellow when I purchased it. I ended up painting it a sable mink metallic (73 torana colour from memory, but I liked the colour). The build date was 1/72 & the engine number was JP103425. Unfortnately I don't have the vin numbers to hand (yet) they may turn up. Going by the engine number it preceeds the above ones? I'll dig around to see if I can find it on the GHM register. Here 2 photos of before & after. Completed photo is just off the gun still had to lower the car..replaced all the glass/rubbers, rechromed all the bumpers etc. If you know the current owner pass on my details if they want more info. Thanks

Thread dig.
I just found the planned production documentation for the first 200 LJ XU1. It was brought forward so there would be 200 cars completed by 6th February so the LJ XU-1 could compete in South Pacific Touring Car Championship, first race at Surfers Paradise on Sunday Feb 6th 1972.
John Bagshaw needed to have Catalogues printed and a list of 200 engine numbers for CAMS.
The planned production breakup was:
Jan 19th - 28th, 8 working days. 80 cars at Acacia Ridge, 48 at Elizabeth. 128 total.
February 1st-4th, 4 working dates. 48 cars at Acacia Ridge, 24 at Elizabeth. 72 total.

The original production split was 100 cars at Elizabeth and 100 cars at Acacia Ridge however the changes to the production schedule meant Elizabeth would only be able to produce 72 XU1, fortunately Acacia Ridge was able to make up the shortfall. The extra 28 cars from the Acacia Ridge production had to be shipped to Melbourne to fulfill the southern zones quota of 100 cars.

The same paperwork lists the PSN and engine numbers of the two Elizabeth XU1’s that were at the LJ Press Release. However it doesn’t do the same for the 3rd (Acacia Ridge) car (the SMP car). It does list the rego numbers of all three. Has anyone documented what the PSN is of the SMP Acacia Ridge car?
Hi Yel327,
I see that you have found some interesting info and I’m wondering if Vic number plate LBG184 is one of the Adelaide built press test cars.
Cheers,
Liz
