I thought it was time to start the SS L32 hatch register as there is a current SS L20 & L31.

I'll start with mine;

Model. LX8VD77
Body. 5xxxxxM
Trim. 1890 - 18V
Paint. 568 - 15953
Eng. L32 Trans. M20 Rraxl. GU4

Build Date. 6/76

I would think the SS L32 & L20 would out number the L31 hatch by about 5 to 1.

Lets see..........

Just read my post again. I think numbers wise, more specifically with my extrapalation L32 & L31 (5-1), L20 & L32 (5-1).
What do others reckon?

Ando,

Norm Darwin estimates;
  • 135 5.0L Hatches which I believe were all 8VD77 (SS),
  • 664 4.2L hatches - goodness knows the breakdown of 8VC77 and 8VD77 (SL and SS) but I believe these were the only two hatch variants with the 4.2L V8, and
  • 3,805 3.3L hatches - again who'd know what the breakdown was between SL and SS?
Ref: 'Torana Tough' (2012, pp 227).

Maybe 'sloper35' might kindly shed some further light on the model specific production numbers suspected or otherwise?

And 'outer' is probably dead right; stealing from that often used line about GTHO Phase III; "There were 135 5.0L SS produced for which thankfully 4,213 survive to this day!"

Cheers, TB

I didn't realise there were so few 253s

Model. LX8VD77
Body. 5xxxxxM
Trim. 1887 - 67V
Paint. 568 - 15950
Eng. L32 Trans. M20 Rraxl. GU4

Build Date. 8/76

There's not much original about it of course...

Well!... Looks like 76lxhatch & I have a couple of rare L32 SS tagged cars, judging by the responce!?
My car is not original but it's definatly a survivor. I reckon an unmolested original L32 SS hatches would be rare indeed.

Thought about chucking in Ando but since no running tally seems to be kept, I wondered why bother.
Maybe a poll is the best way to count these things?
In any case, I've added a tally to the bottom and this is my one;

Model. LX8VD77
Body. 5xxxxxM
Trim. 1915-18V
Paint. 568 - 17779
Eng. L32 Trans. M20 Rraxl. GU4
Build Date. 10/76

So far that is:
3 x 4.2L SS
0 x 4.2L SL

Cheers, TB

Does that make mine rare being the only Cotillion on the list, not as common as those Mandarin's & Antelope's :-)

While my info is up and handy (even though it's not an SS, oops..) what is the name of the body color ? It's been red for ages, but still plenty of the original color in places (inside floor, behind dash, etc), sort of a turquoisey sorta shade ?

Thanks for that Mick....I guess it had the other color painted on at some time in it's history before the red. (I think the guy I bought it from had sprayed it red, around '99 maybe? before I got it in 2000.

(Caribean turquoise or Aquarius looks similar to the color I found under the red)
