Is anyone aware of the type or size of stamped used? Would be handy to know when I head into an engineering shop.

And more legal too...........

I cant see how there would be any legalities involved with changing a date code on a nut?
And being a nut that can be swapped from MC to MC who's to ever say that you have the correct original one to start off with?

Brad, the only way I could see there being a legal problem with having the big nut re-stamped is if you sold the car and the anal purchaser had one of his anal friends (whose anal dad just happened to work for PBR in the 1970's, and his job was to stamp the codes into the big nuts) pointed out that the date stamping on the big nut was not original. Unfortunately you didn't inform him of this before the sale. He will be so devastated over this scandalous deception that he'll take you to court and your misdemeanor will cost you not just one big nut but both your other nuts as well.
Cheers
Dave

So could it not be possible to have one with a date stamp that is some what earlier than the car it is fitted too?

I have one I want to use on my 10/70 GTR but the cast date underneath is 8/69, matches nut dateDon't believe I've ever seen a cast date anywhere on the body of a cast iron M/cyl.

Wouldn't this item be mass produced, used on other model cars as well as other holdens

A production date earlier than the preceding month to which your car was built would probably be unrealistic.
Cars built within the 1st week of the month would more than likely have a master cyl that was produced in the month prior.
Cars built within the 2nd week of the month could have a master cyl that was produced in the month prior or early in the same month.
Cars built within the 3rd week of the month will most likely have a master cyl that was produced in the same month but it could be possible to have one that was made in the month prior.
Cars built within the 4th week of the month would most likely have a master cyl that was produced in the same month.
Approx 2 week lead time on master cyls however this is a general guide only as there could be internal and external factors that could affect production schedules from time to time.

Take the nut to someone before you get it machined off and see if they can duplicate the basic font

I have seen several blank front nuts so you could machine it and leave it, open to interpretation by viewer

These master cylinders were not made by PBR, they were made in-house by GM-H.
