Well its been sitting in the shed for a loooong time while I concentrated on other stuff, but the t'raana has slowly begun to move. So I thought I might post up a few progress pics. Yes its another mandarin red LX SL/R. Its flared and has a 253. Its also got a sienna interior which makes it slightly more unusual... Anyway heres some pics.

Posted Image

Where its sat for a few years.
Posted Image

And the distractions that got in the way..
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

Begrudgingly dragged out of its sleep and moved to the other space for stripping back.
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

Plenty of yucky rust spots found but not too horrible..
Posted Image

Then taken off to a local bloke for rust repairs..

While it was away I had to try and find all the bits sitting around in the shed...
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

I gave up trying to find sienna material.. Rang all round the place but I bought some off cuts off a bloke who had it made up in the USA for his car. Got enough to replace the golfball and repair / patch the vinyl but not to retrim the whole interior. Not goin for a concourse look so I dont mind. Looks heaps better than it did. Griffs trim shop in ballarat did a great job.
Posted Image
Posted Image

And Im taking the trims in to the same bloke this week and he's going to put them on new backing boards, repair what he can and replace the carpet.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Picked up some spare bits from a great local bloke who has some absolutely incredible torana stuff lying around!! Obviously he will be known to some people as he has genuine bathurst GMP&A race cars and some other cars of amazing pegigree that Im not sure I can talk about, but it blew me away! Top bloke too and very friendly. Has a grouse supply of spare bits too. Obviously I wont be disclosing the location of this....

A few grand later, all the rust repairs are done, except for the nose cone which needs some TLC.
Posted Image

Its great what you find. Bought an old caravan off ebay and it turns out this chick was a total motorhead. She had a couple of monaros in the shed and loads and loads of other old holdens sitting around. her husband fixes rust so I got him to do the torry for me. And now she's back in the shed, awaiting the next stage... Sanding, priming, sanding, painting, sanding, sanding.............. sanding.... etc...

Great job mate, looking forward to seeing updates.
Also, wow what about all the toranas, both sedans and hatches just sitting around. I know plenty of people who would like to have one of those hatches sitting in the shed ready to do up.
Good luck with your sedan mate.

Cheers guys. yeah that place was incredible. There was quite a few other torrys in another area and 2 other genuine bathurst history race cars. Forgot to mention the car is in a sort of dark red at the moment but the mandarin is underneath. Will begin stripping it back soon to see what other surprise lurk...

Thought id do a bit of an update.

Ive had to have a bit of a change of plans cos i just havent been able to find the time to work on the paint aspect. With 2 young kids and me and the mrs both workin full time and a million house chores Ive realised Im just never going to find the craploads of hours needed to sand and paint it myself.. So ive found a local bloke who is gunna fo it for me at a decent rate. Ive decided its easier to do a few overtime shifts at work to get some extra cash than it is to paint it myself!

Anyhoo, I painted the floor and front end with POR15 which came up great but i didnt get too many pics.

The boy loves it and was quite upset to see it go...

IMG_0758_zps604feeb6.jpg

IMG_0759_zpsbef390dd.jpg

I did a trade for an EJ wagon to make some space for him while he works on it

Ive got some decent wheels to play with now. 15 x 7 and 15 x 8 performance challengers.

IMG_1037_zpscc87edba.jpg

IMG_1038_zps7dab295a.jpg

The door trims have been put on new backs with new carpet and look a million times better.

IMG_1073_zpsc687ebe3.jpg

Consoles ready to rock

IMG_1074_zps66348496.jpg

And the fun begins.... Will update as shit happens... As it apparently does.

Sure is nice to know the parts are being used ..wasn't much else usable..think the only thing I used was the SLR wipers!

Sort of like an organ  transplant.

Bit of an update... Why not.

Makin slow progress, but its still progress..

IMG_1270_zps7fb67e96.jpg

Replacement interior vinyls (courtesy of boomfunk), sunvisors, and seatbacks. All will be vinyl sprayed in sienna.

IMG_1258_zps967de408.jpg

IMG_1260_zpsc8187c62.jpg

IMG_1259_zpsaaf854c4.jpg

SL/R masking for the paint job. I havent been able to decide whether I want the SL/R 5000 look or not yet. Im thinking I will as it has flares and will have the SLR paint job/blackouts anyway, so i thought I might as well embrace the whole look.

IMG_1262_zps215d58d0.jpg

Some body work progress. Theres more but i dont wanna bore people..

IMG_1269_zps60818690.jpg

IMG_1266_zps52978f8e.jpg

IMG_1267_zpsdacadaad.jpg

Wow. Now that is a living, breathing, screaming, moody car. Awesome.
