I was lucky enough to score 8m of GMH NOS chrome locking strip for the F/R windscreens. (Hope thats enough).

I was a bit iffy about fitting it myself... I have fitted the locking strip before on my other car, but I reckon there was a bit more room to play with? Last time I used the corner of a metal coat hanger and bent it into like a diamond shape to spread the rubber. I think I might have used soapy water as lube? Cant remember.

I ducked into Instant Windscreens yesterday where I bought my front screen from. They quoted $90 per windscreen ($180 total) to fit the locking strip at my house.

Whats an expected price to pay?

Or if I give it a go myself, any hints or tips? Ive also got a good set of original corner mould pieces to.

I think I paid $150 to have the front and rear done on mine by O-brians.. first time around a young bloke turned up and he was honest enough to say he wasnt skilled enough and didnt want to risk scratching my paint and organised for "the old fella" to come around and do it. which I was pretty happy with... They use the special tool and he was very careful.

But I had the remake crap which is bigger then NOS so couldnt fit the mould peices, but he just cut the corners at neat 45' angles.

Just spoke to another windscreen mob. They want the front/rear glass to be removed again so that they can install the locking strip into the rubber and install the glass and strip in one go.....

Is it possible to fit the locking strip without having to do this.......

Brad,

it's not that hard, trust me.

Use the tool that you have and get yourself some silicon spray lubricant (in an aerosol can with the tube nozzle).

Spray the silicon into the channel of the windscreen seal as you insert the locking strip and it will go in pretty easy. When you get near the corners, I recommend you cut the strip so it end about 5mm before the corner. then you cad add the corner pieces.

cheers
Mick

Front/Rear windscreen sealed and locking strips and corner pieces fitted. I dunno what I was so worried about???? Went in so easy that I had to double check I wasnt doing something wrong.... The corner pieces were a bit tricky though... But its all GMH locking strip and corner pieces. Just the Rubbers were RSP items. But everything seems good.

Slid one end of the corner piece in and ensured the inner edges had the rubber lips clipped over both inner sides then worked the outer lips of rubber over the outter sides.

Wish rare spares would reproduce the correct width locking strip

Well I've got about 50cm left over if they wanted some as a sample.

Hey mate,
Looks like you did a neat job.
Did you remove the front and rear glass yourself?
Any tips? or is there an existing thread I should check out?
Cheers!

I bought the car without glass fitted. I fitted the front/rear screens myself and then sealed and fitted the locking strips.
