Thanks for the detailed info Bazza. It is a P, does the P indicate SL trim level as dattoman said?

 

No chassis number yet, the guy is away and not listed with VicRoads but engine number matches, it's registered and it all seems good.

Yes, 48P (Sandalwood) is correct for the model 82569 (SL 4 door 6 cylinder).

That VIN comes up as a 6 cylinder 4 door SL that was completed in Adelaide on 17/8/73 and sold by Alan Capp Pty Ltd of Wangaratta Vic during Nov '73. The VIN disc records that the car left the factory with a 173 engine (number not recorded) and a 3.36:1 ratio limited slip differential. These items appear on your Body Identification tag as LD1 and G95 respectively. The car also had a 3 speed manual transmission and front wheel disc brakes.

 

The original colour was Cyan Metallic and the trim black vinyl.

 

The engine number that you have quoted is not original to the car but appears to a low compression 202 from a HQ/HJ

Hi John

 

One of the last 80 built at Adelaide. S Model 2 door completed on 9/2/74 and sold by R W E Frazer, Corowa NSW in March '74. There is no engine number listed on the disc but the original would be in the CD43xxxx to CD46xxxx range. It has a 3 speed manual transmission and a disc brake front end. The disc also indicates a 3.36:1 limited slip diff but that could be an error because half the cars on the page also have an LSD recorded against them. It is odd that the Chassis Number does not commence with CLJ as I have details of 2 Brisbane cars built in 1974 both of which have "CLJ prefix" Chassis Numbers.

I have never seen or heard of an LJ with a 1974 colour from the factory, but if that is what the Body Identification tag says then it must be correct. Equally, I have never seen or heard of a QL prefix engine being factory fitted to an LJ. What is the engine number that you have?

Sorry to say that you have mixed tags there. The VIN is from a Brisbane built S Model 2 door completed Sept 1970, and the other tags are from an Adelaide built S Model 2 door from late December 1971. Can you see anything scribed onto the back of the ADR tag (that's the one wiith ALC39907A). The Body Identification tag describes an "S Model 2 door, Olive Green with Sandalwood trim.

Very interesting. I have since been advised of a couple more '74 LJs with 1974 colours. One colour chart that I have found states "Effective January 1974" - so I guess that explains it. I have also been made aware of more "CLJ" prefix Chassis Numbers. Always learning.

Nothing wrong there. - S Model completed in Sydney on 17/2/70 and sold by Fair Deal Car Sales P/L, 65 Church St, Parramatta  NSW the same month. There is no engine number recorded.

161 engine, Trimatic auto transmission, drum brakes and a 2.78:1 conventional differential. All the tag numbers line up datewise.

Can I ask Bazza how it was complinced in March yet sold in Febuary. as I was told not possible.

I don't really have an answer but I have seen that happen a few times. More than likely an input error on the part of the operator or the tag stamped wrong.

Any chance you know where the 2 tags go, skinny one and the body id one, i know compliance goes near wiper motor.
