G'day All

What does Toranafest mean to you and what do you get out it

It means many things for me but I suppose the main one is meeting and socialising with like minded people who just enjoy their Torana whether it be a HB or A9X.

Yes it is great to see some magnificent machines but I regard Toranafest as an experience not just a car show.

For me to make a 1,250 Km round trip and not do the Saturday Cruise or Saturday night Meet & Greet BBQ would be pointless.

AND what about that BBQ :spoton:
Where can you see so many Torana celebs up close and personal and get to hear of their Torana relationship when being interviewed by Todd Martin whose knowledge on Torana history brings out those special memories and stories.

Miss out on that  Not on your nellie :spoton:

Enjoy the experience, have a great night and support HVTC and Ronald McDonald House.

Regards .... Barry

I did say Toranafest was an experience and not just a car show and not forgetting the Saturday arvo cruise and the Meet & Greet BBQ with all of those celebs.

Try Toranafest just once and see if you like it.
There are others who travel further than you would and are regular Festites.

Perhaps you might like to re-think a part of that statement as it is always good to be able to remember a great time.

To us it starts when we get together to travel from Brisbane to Newcastle around 1500 klms round trip. This year there will be 16 torana's making the trip down. Meeting up at the motel with others that we have meet on the forum and also making new friends that share the same interest as we do.

Just walking around the motel talking to others and looking at there cars it is like a mini show. Sharing a drink or too.

The cruise on Saturday 92 Torana last year more this year.

Meet and greet BBQ where you get to listen to the celebs and there stories from the days when our cars first came into racing. Todd Martin what he does not know about Torana's is not worth knowing.

Then there is the show on Sunday to top off the weekend sooooo many Torana's in one spot.

All this is for a good cause to support Ronald McDonald House .

Yes Barry you are right it is not just a car show it is a experience the whole weekend.

Can't wait bring it on.

See you all there

I enjoy it for the 4 day getaway and catching up and chating with other Torry owners. Think this is my 5th year straight. I really enjoy it and it keeps getting better every year. Well worth attending for those who haven't been.

There’s nothing wrong with static car displays/shows, each to their own.

To me a car ‘festival’ should have the static aspect but also have more on the side. It should be in a good location with alternative events and sights for those new to the area, especially a cruise or two to the scenic parts of the location.

I think Toranafest does cover this and the BBQ with ‘Torana guests’ is a great idea.

Some suggestions to make it better.

- A night street cruise that the locals can get to enjoy, I saw this done in NZ to great effect at Americarna. They blocked off the main street for a few hours in the evening and the cars just cruised a few laps, plenty of people hanging out on the footpaths, out of the pubs, restaurants, etc. watching it all go by.

- Carnival rides for the kids would be an added bonus, as you can imagine not all of them are keen on looking at cars all day and like a bit of their kind of excitement.

- A Gymknana event may also be of interest to some.

- Musical entertainment is also something I’ve seen at both Wintersun and Americarna, it goes down well with the families that want to chill out away from the cars for a moment / have a snack on the lawn by the stage(s).

I am not quite sure what it means to me yet, as this will be my first visit, I intend to go with the flow and take out of it as much as possible, but given the stories I have heard from past events, I am jumping around like a young bull with his balls stuck on the lekky fence for the first time waiting to get there ....

Honestly I am as excited about the drive there and back as I am about the rest, but really looking forward to the saturday cruise, and the rest I am sure will be awesome as well.

What does Toranafest mean to you???

About six months of hard work and hair pulling!! Not that I have much left...

Seriously, to me;

It's about continuing on a legacy that the Club started back in 1994.

It's about putting back into the community, and more so, to the local charities.

It's about seeing people from all over Australia (and New Zealand) come together, from all walks of life, to celebrate this great car of ours, the Torana.

It's about seeing every type of Torana imaginable where everyone's car is treated the same and everyone respects everyone else's cars.

To us, it is more than a carshow, it's a festival!

To answer some of your questions Steve,
Bit hard to have a cruise on the Sat night as we do have the Meet and Greet BBQ on that night..
A cruise through Newcastle during the day is like a rolling car park. You will see this on the Suday as well..
As for the carnival rides... not enough room where we are..
Music.. What is more cool that listening to the tunes from the 70's??

We do have plans for the future but that will depend on the Ringwood raceway being built.. It's been slow going with approvals.

cheers
Mick

What does Toranafest mean to me? The first year I went (2009) I had it in my head that it was going to be all about the cars but from the moment I left Brisbane as a passenger in a UC hatch and then swapped over on the Gold Coast to an LX Hatch (Ando's) I realised it was more about the company than the cars. Swapping stories on the drive down with the rumble of a V8 providing ambiance was nothing short of awesome. It was the same on the way home in the Moffatt replica hatch. The actual fest itself provided the same cool vibe, whether it be listening to the Nowacki brothers telling tales of old, meeting fellow gmh-t dudes for the first time face to face, sharing a drink and yarn with fellow club members or running around like a mad bugger taking photos all day Sunday, the atmosphere was always comforting. I felt at home with strangers, a feeling I hadnt experienced before. Camaraderie I guess you would call it. And that was just the first year plus I didnt take my own car.

The following year I did drive down in a Torana and once again the atmosphere was perfect, so cool in fact that dressing up in daggy 70's gear and strutting around like a used car salesman just felt normal. Adding another dimension to that year was the clubs trip out to Bathurst on the way home, a trip I reflect back upon regularly.

Last year was no different and feeling totally comfortable in my surrounds I let my hair down (LOL, what hair !!) much to the amusement, surprise and in some cases, concern of others present. I had a good time being a total yobbo and if I didnt feel safe, I sure as hell wouldnt have partied hard. Once again it comes down to the vibe. Surrounded by a heap of people, many who I know and many who I dont but all there with the same agenda, to enjoy one anothers cars, company and laughs.

This year I am being the baby sitter and stepping aside for some other louts to run amok. Suits me too as I would like to take home more than vague recollection of events. None the less I know I will have a great time as I have for the three years previous to that. It all starts with the meeting point early Friday morning and ends when I pull up in the driveway on Monday or Tuesday, the in between bits is simply ToranaFest, an experience too good for words, too much for photos and too damn great to miss out on.

It is with out a doubt the highlight of my year and Im getting excited just sitting here typing about it.

See ya's there !!

It meant to me an early morning meet at Thornleigh, an awesome cruise up to Newcastle. Set up around awesome people, and enjoy a day sitting back behind the car and Torailer listening to some funny stuff the drunk bogans came out with like, and I quote, "This here is the best trailer in Austraya!"

I've only been apart of the HVTC for couple of years now and was blown away when I learnt how indepth this event is to orginise.Planning is started from when the last one is finished, what went well and what could be better. Our club and Mick is always looking at making this event better and better every year.
Mick is a FREAK and without him this event would not be what it is today.
To me Torana Fest is a event and a gathering,to meet, catch up with great people that have the same interests as me and to see some of the best Toranas that are still alive today come out.The Saturday arvo cruise is awsome, with close to a 100 Toranas last year cruising together on the outer suburbs is a sight to see.
The Saturday night BBQ is one not to miss.
Sunday is the day and before you know it you are packing up when you have seemed like you have just got there.
We always seem to pull off great weather and I hope this year will be the same.
Can't wait and bring it on.
Live the Dream
