One of either of these two would fit better i think

http://www.summitrac...rts/KNN-E-2960/

May be a touch to long for a LC/LJ engine by, my engines out of the car atm i'll report back once its back in, carbs are back on and i can take a measurement. Apart from that, ideal....Now i gotta find one in paper :D

Cheers.

I've just ordered some bits to replace my airbox.... a bit out of the 'ordinary', but I think it'll look good at least. I'll post pics when it's done.
Watch this space!

I went into the local fleetguard to chase up the nissan 240z thing, no joy.

So seeing though i need something sooner rater than later i got three of these

http://www.summitrac...-1209/overview/

Should work, about twice the size of your average SU air cleaner, just need to mod the baseplates......Again watch this space.

Cheers.

Hey bomber ,Here's another option ,I've just fitted ram tubes to the 2" su's and some cool stainless wire gauze filters that clip over the ram tube lip like some webers use.It definatley leaned the a/f ratio because i had to wind the main jet screw down 1/4 turn to drive it smoothly. I'll have to connect the a/f ratio meter to see whats going on there.

It rains about 20 days a year here, and thats generally a half hour shower during the day. Heavy rain about 4-5 days a year. Central queensland is a dust bowl.

Cheeers.

I have 1 3/4 SUs and have also been looking at different setups.

Was all set on trumpets with filter socks but am also interested in the K&N range.

Below are the part numbers and dimensions I was able to dig up for 1 3/4 SUs.

These are all the round style similar to XU1 filters with chrome end plates.

The 83mm deep filters sound cool but bonnet clearance could be an issue on a LC. I am running a Lynx which throws the carbs out and up nice and high. Will have to get the tape measure out.

At one stage I had KnN's, they were cylidrical, bout 3" dia, but had an angled neck... allowing for a low bonnet. I had to use a bit of radiator hose to fill the gap between the ramtube and the filter neck.

I run K&N E-2320. Same size as the original ryco air cleaners. They seem to do the job.

So far... the 4mm plate is the footplate from an old crosstrainer, the red painted bit is part of an HQ door that was unsalvageable. The last pic is just PA-10'd... before a bit of a paint job after it's all welded together.

Yeah I know! But... I've tried them before I primed them. They work better than the ramtubes I had, probly similar to the airbox... which was better than the ramtubes too. Like I said earlier... something different!
Now, what colour will I paint them???

Nother thing too, the car was real quiet with the long runners. Almost factory like. It was weird!
Going fishing again tomorrow, might be later in the week before I get back to them.

Dyno time, looks pretty cool though.

Once its proven on the dyno make one out of ally and polish it to a mirror finish.

Then engrave it with a hammer and chissel so it looks bad ass.

Na, ignore all the above, bar the first sentence.

wouldnt it have been better to extend it a little further to get that air filter away from the radiator?

Not an issue. Air being pushed through the rad goes back over the engine. Exhaust heat is more of a problem as hot air rises... hence the zorst wrap. If, at a later date, I decide to do something about warm air, I'll chuck a Marley downpipe elbow in there to force cooler air over the filter. And, any further forward I couldn't fit the V8 rad back in.
