Hi Gary

LJ GTR & LJ GTR XU1 front and rear springs are one and the same.
The only variation for LJ XU1 was the use of the LC 'S' & 'SL' heavy duty front and rear springs as listed in the CAMS LJ XU1 Amendment 5/5v dated 29th August 1972.

AFAIK all LC & LJ springs were satin black with a daub of coloured paint on one end of the coil for easy identification on the production line.
If the end of the spring with the paint daub was installed up into the spring tower you wouldn't see it so probably not that important unless it's a concourse resto.

The spring at the top of the pic is NOS LC GTR & XU1. At the right hand end you can see the reddish/pink paint marking.
Don't worry about the spring below it, it's JUST a Pedders H/D spring, nothing spesh.

Hi Gary

The late LJ parts catalogue mentions 'light green' for "911" models.

Hi Gary

Sorry not sure about that - the catalogues don't reflect the change in Aug '72.

The only paint marks that I have seen on springs were about 3/4 to 1 inch.

Cheers

Lt. Green marking for front springs, no colour mentioned for rear springs.
As Bazza said the paint daubs are around 3/4" to 1" long. Would have depended on the person wielding the paint brush.

Cheers
Dave.

Maz, what is the part number?

The standard LC 6cyl rear spring part number ends in 429. Maybe coincidence?
