Hi all.

Ive finally got my hatch back from the painter. And i couldn't be happier.
It's taken 12 years to get it to this point and i've just realised my memory isn't as clear as i remember it to be on a few things BUT !

The thing thats got me at the moment is.....

The hatch seal fitment....i cant friggin work it out for the life of me how the seal goes in or is fitted. Its been near 17 years since i have had anything to do with one...

anyone got any pics info or other wise ?

My new replacement seal is a piece of the rarespare body seal kit

See attached pic of freshly Empress Black painted Hatch Goodness !

thanks Dattoman.
I think im in the poop with my seal as mine looks very much so like the one in question that has unhappy customers.
On the upside tho i saw a picture of how the seal profile is fitted so thats always a plus.

Now i have to try and find out where the joins go in the quarter glass seals

Hi Scott, on my hatch I put the join to the bottom on the quarter glass, dont know if this is correct just seamed the logical choice. :)

Paul.

Hi Guys,

the join in the Rear Quarter Glass seal should be in line with the top Glass hinge on the B Pillar.

That way it is hidden and it is pretty protected on the outside by the B Piller Trim Panel.

cheers
Mick

thats what i was thinking as well.
I was thinking that piece of tupperware would encroach over the hinge section a bit.
As mine are still a the paint shop and have never been fitted to the car, it eludes me for a visual representation.

Cosmetically i could see the validation for putting it on the b pillar as to hide the join...But to prevent possible leakage from the rain etc it also makes sence to put it on the bottom side of the window....

the conudrum one now faces... At least i am armed with the knowledge i require....

Cheers Paul and Mick

I may need to invest in your services and materials too Mick.
I having a few difficulties with rare spares components, but will give them the opportunity to rectify the issue first.

Hi all.  Resurrecting an old thread and needing advice on installing the hatch seal.  I don't really need it in yet but I have just refitted the hatch and thought it best on 2 fronts, one to protect the body and 2, from earlier reading some seals take a bit of time to settle in.  Anyway it sits fine along the bottom but as soon as I try to go around the corner I can't get it to sit down.  Tried masking tape to hold it in place but needs something a bit stronger.  I have read a few posts and will consider contact adhesive when I do a final fit but would prefer not to at present.  Here is a couple of pics.  Am I doing it the right way around, and any other tips?  Cheer Ron

Hi all, any thoughts.  The most difficult part is at the corners where it really stands up.  Cheers Ron

Watching with interest. My hatch "seal" is anything but a seal.

Steve, is this a Rarespares one or something else?  I think I may have my original one so will do some digging around. Cheers Ron

Hi Ron, I don't know who made it because it was already on the car. It's in good condition so i am not keen to replace it. But yeah, doesn't go round the curves too well and leaks when I wash the car.

Mine is fitted upside down to that, it just sits inside the channel and the bulbous part goes to the top toward the outside. No idea what's correct though.

Good news is I've found the original seal. Bad news is it has a few cuts in it so can't use it in the build.  May use it temporarily and will post some pics once I have cleaned it up. Cheers Ron

Toss the Rares item, it will only do your head in and purchase one off Mick at Torana Restoration Parts.

Given what we pay for paint panel a few hundred bucks for a good seal, is a no brainer.
