Id say its dead in the water due to lack of funding. Maybe once the economy gets going again in a few yrs time. The Townsville drag strip is now shut down so out nearest strip is Mackay 800klms away.

Have a look here for info:

What a shame, such a big town and they deserve a track. Why did Townsville close????? You mose well skip Mackay, has been managed piss poor over the years, use to be the best in OZ years ago imo. Cairns needs a major complex.
Thanks hanra

Townsville track has been sold off to developers. Was always on the cards it was going to go that way. Springmount is a top spot for it, cool air temps in the winter time to!! Slightly less air pressure however.... being elevated approx 500m above sea level.

There are a few serious big HP cars up this way but I'm not sure it would attract the numbers to make it sustainable.

i hardly heard anything being advertised on either tv or the radio.i think that they went about it the wrong way,the old saying is you got to learn to crawl before you walk.what should of happen is instead of going straight to a world class venue like willowbank, they shoud have started out buy having the 1/8 of a mile.even if they charge $50 entry fee they would have at least 50-100 cars and bikes there.have the event on say every 2 weeks save the money then over say like a 5 year period they can expand to the 1/4 of a mile drag racing.there would of been a lot of business people out there who would of like to get involved in drag racing but had not of herd hardly nothing about it.thanks jason.

Part of the reason why springmount has not got up and running is because
of the funding that was granted by the previous government was redirected
into cyclone and flood releif, there was other parties willing to throw some money
at it as well but not sure what happened there.
There was also some bullshit enviromental hurdles like having a 30 foot high
earth bank to control sound to the nearby open farmland,no doubt there are
other issues but thats what I was told by the owner/organizer.

a investor put up 1 million dollars and the club had 12 months to match his 1 million dollars and the club could only raise about 100 thousand dollars in the 12 month time limit.so the investor stop his part of the deal.thanks jason.
