Hi guys,

Which front end bushes differ between LH (non RTS) and LX/UC w/ RTS?

When I ordered my bushes the guy asked whether I was LH or late LX/UC as they are different. I wasn't sure how to answer as the front end in my car is LX RTS but I'm unsure what the bare powdercoated front end I bought and plan to use is.

Cheers!

The only difference I am aware of is that UC will not require bushes for the steering rack

The difference between the LH/pre RTS LX and the RTS LX & UC bushes will be the composition/hardness of the rubber.

The steering rack in the UC doesnt use rubber bushes, it was replaced with steel sleeves.

The differences in the other bushes are only in the lower arm bushes as far as I know.

LH & LX(early non RTS) Torana used standard bushes in the lower arms, forward and rear
Front and rear Lower arm: GM #2807098 (9942588) OEM McKay A1121 bubber bush

UC all (RTS Version II) used tuffer lower bushes front and rear. Also used on LX Sunbird 77 onwards only(RTS version I)
Front lower arm: GM #9946831 (92005741) OEM McKay A1202 bubber bush
Rear lower arm: GM #9946832 (92005742) OEM McKay A1203 bubber bush

Thanks heaps Fuzzypumper for posting this key bit of information regarding bush differences between RTS and Non-RTS.

I can confirm a difference in bushes used front and rear on the lower control arm by looking at an old original UC RTS lower arm and if you look closely, you can see the central tube is thicker inside the rubber bush.

It's worth mentioning that most of the front rebuild kits on eBay etc seem to only feature the one stiffness lower bush and most I've seen are of the softer A1121 style bush.

This may make for a softer less sporty ride.

I've also emailed Mackay rubber and they confirmed the bush A1202 is harder than bush A1121.  The bush A1203 is no longer available and has been superseded by A1121.

Here is part of the email:

Hi,

A1203 is not a good number!

A1121 non-RTS inner lower bush

A1202 is for RTS but can be used to replace A1121. Both are the same rubber material the difference is the centre tube as below A1202 is thicker so you might say would be stiffer.

Parts can be purchased through automotive retailers i.e Supercheap , Repco or Burson
