Hi all..

I welded on the RH bottom guard patch that I had made out of a sill panel.. Worked out well and fits nice..

Also cut the inspection hole in the sill end.. Plus a little light sandblast to see wht its really like in the guard wet area.

Another job done..This side is nearly finnished..

Mike

Hi all...

I worked on this car some more today...

I sandblasted and Epotec 408 the RH sill area/rear quarter bottom and front guard bottom.. This side is finnished and dont know when its going to get colour... This, in my opinion is the way to go as etch primer is porus and will eventually rust....

and my car in the sun letting paint harden.. Just to rub it in :)

Hi all..

I found some more rust while doing a little poking around.. And heres me thinking that the RH side was done...

A hole in the beaver  and the beaver lip rusted through.. Took off, sandblasted, primed then put back together.. all done..

Now I can move to the LH side...

Are there any tricks to fitting the rust repair sections?

Obviously you don't want to bag out certain suppliers of rust repair panels, but which companies products do you like best?

Hi Steve.. Ive been using the Rare Spares.... They are all the same and come from the same factory... Dont use "old School" as they sell seconds for full retail, and when questioning the panel,, They say that you dont know what your doing??????

.. Aussie muscle is now owned by Rares.. so there parts are the same.. When buying repo panels.. Make sure you check them before you leave the shop... They are not very consistant... My own thoughts..

Thanks for your thought Mike, by Aussie Muscle did you mean Aussie Muscle Car Parts (http://www.aussiemusclecarparts.com/)? I was planning on getting their sills, look better than the Rare Spares ones, and then the GTR guards from Rares, since mine are warped from a previous owners (very poor) attempt at fitting the flutes. I assume Rares should start carrying their stuff?

They are the same part from the same supplier.. Just sold in different shops.. and yes it is aussie muscle. With the outer door sills... Make sure you measure yours as there are 2 differnt sizes.. The grey zinc is original size (rares) and the black is narrower... Very important as it wont match the other sills/front bottom guard..

Check out my Rally Red XU-1 build and you will see what I mean..

If you are using the ones with the sill ends on... You will find it doesnt match ANY repo sill panel.. I use the rares Zinc ones and make my own sill ends... works out straight and less ffing around to match.

I go from front guard bottom to the rear wheel arch..

That is what Ive found when using the bits.

Thanks heaps Mike, I think I will just used the Rare's sills then. I have been watching your build thread I will be having another good look before I start on my own sills. I will measure mine and make sure they are the same width, otherwise I guess its off to the sheety with what's left of my sills to make up some new ones.

Hi all...

I finally have got a chance to finnish this car.. I have completed all the rust/panel repairs...

The guy is starting to sandbalst and KBS the bottom... He is, by my recommendation..doing sections at a time..easier that way... I want it off the rotissier by next weekend..

On another note.

Having now used both POR 15 and KBS rust killers.  I prefer the POR 15 brand as to the KBS.. the KBS has way too many lumpy bits in it..The POR15 does not need screening.. The KBS does....

Hi all....

Wet and windy here in South Aus...

Anyway.. Lucky I started to paint KBS early today.. Its very wet here now..

I used the KBS rust guard with their black top coat.... Turned out ok after straining the KBS rust guard twice as it was very gritty.. Not milled down too much.. I suppose you get what you pay for.. Myself, I prefer POR 15.. better quality... goes the further...

It took the poor guy 2 days of sandbalsting... I did advise to take and get sandblasted ( I wont sandblast any of my cars again, Ill pay someone)...... Its done now and is tully "rust free"... It will go on a trolley as soonas dry and go home.. Its about time.. been a while..

I have to make room for more jobs that are comming..

Stay tuned for the LC Rally Red XU-1 A-pillar and gap fix... The next booked job.

Mike

Hi all..

Asking if anyone would be interested in buying this car... The guy has changed his mind/no cash.. It has all doors , bonnet boot lid in same colour as per first pics..

Its a rust free shell.. Great starting point for someone..  It will need re-spraying.. The spray job is pretty bad.

asking 3000...

This is where this car ended up Mike,   10 years on still  not together but moved forward a long way.   Lots of bog removed. further rust removed from doors, a pillar, radiator support and boot.   It will live again one day.Attached File  20170909_132838.jpg   77.23K   6 downloadsAttached File  20170909_195711.jpg   68.49K   5 downloadsAttached File  20171222_212617.jpg   84.61K   5 downloadsAttached File  20180624_151149.jpg   98.19K   5 downloadsAttached File  20180730_213321.jpg   48.27K   5 downloadsAttached File  20180811_172207.jpg   86.12K   5 downloadsAttached File  20180929_174324.jpg   55.01K   5 downloadsAttached File  20180929_174542.jpg   87.25K   6 downloadsAttached File  20181111_165836.jpg   74.66K   6 downloadsAttached File  20181111_182114.jpg   87.31K   6 downloadsAttached File  20181111_192133.jpg   79.18K   5 downloads
