Im getting heaps of enquiries about work..
This is the continuation of the "RUST FREE" LJ sedan...
Finnished the LH door sill and end.. Floor patches are in. Started the RH side sill...Yep more paper and wood inside.. Cheaky bugger...
Took off the rear window lip to replace..
Overall car isnt too bad for rust.. Nearly done..
and I bought a new welder.. Lincolne 180 amp Mig/Tig/Arc.... Nice welder that does what is meant too..
I cut up the rest of the LJ copue..a shame to kill another 2 door.. It wasnt worth saving.. I saved the RH rear quarter/ front LH guard and the inner sill panels...
Next time
Mike.

Thought Ide mention..I changed my mig gas to the Argon/Oxygen mix.. Better, flatter welds.. Much better than the Argon/Carbon dioxide mix..

Looking good so far anyway.
A bit sad seeing those 3 (or 4) carcasses there but I guess if you're using everything you can off of them to bring others back to life its not so bad.

Is this another one of yours or one your doing for someone else Mike?
Looking good so far anyway.

Its someone elses... Its was supoosidly a "rust free" car... Yeah right... hence the name of this job "rust free"....
Yes its a shame to kill cars.. I do use everthing I can. The pic only shows a little of what I have... I have 11 chassis in total.. Some good, some not so good..
When I run out of donour parts..Thats the end of welding cars for me.. way too hard finding cars to cut up.. and people want to pay peanuts for panels.. Im not selling anything any more.. way too hard to get a buck... When done. .all is going to scrap..
Mike

Hi all... I finally got some time to work on cars.. Bloody weather has been keeping me busy at work.. Lots of break downs..
anyway..The important stuff...
I cutt off the rusty RH sill area to have a good look... Not too bad.. Needs a sill end made. The inner floor sill needs a little patch.. Looks heaps better now the bog and crap is gone.. I cant believe what they did with the bog....
It needs a GOOD blasting.. I also blasted the floor to see how bad it was.. Yep.. stuffed.. and i havnt got a RH front floor patch.. All mine have gone.. Looks like a repo one.. YUK.. but thats all he can get.. Ill make it fit..
That has put a stop to that as Rares are out of stock.. Should be here next week sometime... I got him to order the other panels he needs as well...
I took off the LH drip rail as it showed signs of rust.. and yep.. just major surface rust.. I sanblasted the bits/ undercaoted with copper weld through primer.. No holes.. easy fix..
Seems most cars I have looked at have rust on both rails.. Its a common problem..
So I moved to the rear window rail... Test fitted.. seems ok.. I dont really want to use the one he gave me.. It will create more work fixing after welding. Its a BIG long weld and will move as its SOO long.I wont tack and bog like most people do with this panel.. Thats cheating. .. Ive talked him into getting the whole rear piece.. easy fit and looks good when spot welded on.. Thats what I want to do..
He came around on the weekend and started to strip the engine bay..
The car is getting there.. more slowly than I originally thought.. Bloody work and weather.. Im too tired to play in the shed after work.. Climbing ladders up and down all day and frying my brain while up there.....
I want it done asap to make room for more work that is booked.. I wont rush and cut corners.. Its not in me to do that..
next time
Mike

Hi all...
Its been a while but I managed to get some time for this car today.. I got some repo bits to fix some rust.. Im out of RH front floor areas.. so a repo one is going in...
I aslo abanded the idea of welding in the "half" rear window rail and got the guy to get the "proper" piece.. it went in really well.. Im impressed with this part.. Ive done 2 now and they are consistant so far.
I sandblasted the inner panel, primed before I put the top on..
Panel bonded with every clamp I have ...
After 2 hours I then spot welded where I could and had to do a couple of plug welds.. Looks good and you would know it was replaced..
Love it..
I started to do the RH front floor area as well..Took out the old piece and started to weld up the inner sill.. I decided to "patch" rather than cut out.. It doesnt really need to come out.. Only a smallish hole..

Hi all..
I had some time today for the car..
The RH front repo floor patch is in.. Took a little banging/bashing and weld/tack on side at a time then cut... Making sure it fitted nice and tight to the inner door sill/firewall. I used some tech screws to hold in place while fitting/welding..
I started to strip/cutt and clean the RH inner and outer bottom door sill... I sandblasted / rust killed with phosphuric acid, then etche primed.. I will cut and fit the outer tomm. Making sure to stagger the welds on the outer sill....
While its open Ill try and clean inside the rear bit as best as I can.. I think ill fish oil it while its open..
When sill is on..on the rotissier.. Much better than working on the ground .
Next time.

Hi All...
I did some more on "rust free: this arvo... Got the RH outer door sill on, I managed to sanblast/clean inside a bit, then filled with fish oil.. she smells but wont rust anymore
After the sill was welded in place, making sure I used some panel bond on the bottom of the sill... I put it on the rotissier.... All ready for some more work.. Nearly done.. Just finish the sill ends and fix the RH rear quarter..

Hi all..
I did some more on this car this morning...
I finnished the LH door sill and end.. Ill gind the end welds when Ive fixed the front guard, making sure the line is straight with the same gap as doors.
I managed to weld with a "step" to accomadate the guard... Noticed how I slotted the egde to bend down and weld.. That is how I got my step.. Easy really..
I also put the final piece of the sill on.. I had to fix some holes on the rear inner guard first.. While the sill was open and the end is sealed.. I "flooded" the cavity with quality fish oil... That will fix any future rust
While it was tilted, allowing access to the RH sill inner side.. I welded over the plugs, just to make sure..
Getting there...
thats enough for me, very hot and muggy now.. Getting sick of this hot weather...

You should of seen all the crap that he used to pack behind the bog.. what a joke.. Wood, foam, cement bits, wire, even a nappy.... I suppose the bogger thought he was doing a good job.. Must have been on something
The pic of the car before I went to work..The owner thought he got a bargain, until I showed him the bog.. He nearly cried, the poor guy..

You would win all categories at a car show.
We will have to invest in another 50 plate/vise grips to get close, plenty of Torana's where you are. Dave I
