So, it's been a while since my last update.  Quite a bit has happened, been made redundant, scored a contract position working out of town, not my dream job but even time roster makes it easier to live with.

 

Anyhoo, where I'm at.  

 

Battery Bay Replaced

 

Radiator Support Panel Replaced.

A big thank you to Statler for helping (actually doing) me with this job.  Also a word of warning for anyone using Retro Rods Support Panel, you need to know that their panel doesn't 'kink' down in the middle.  There is ~10mm difference from the original to Retro's, which means the bonnet support bracket needs to be modified to suit.  This isn't a problem for me as i am making some more mod's this panel as well.  Apart from difference in the panel I would recommend the Retro Rod panel to those considering them as an option.

Cut out all of the rust.

 

Filled up a few holes.

 

Started to lay out the hidden wiring harness

 

Panel Beated, Bogged, and Sanded until I had no finger prints.....I now have an appreciation for the guys that do this for a living.

 

Painted

 

To say I'm happy with how it's come up it is an understatement.  I now have to start to put it all back together again....finding everything may be an issue 

 

To pinch a line from Agent....1 more mm

Thanks Tony. I'll have to run a scoop as I won't be able to close the bonnet. I have scored a spare boot so I'll eventually have one with a spoiler and without.

Is that a Mal Wood kit? They're pretty good as long as the throw out bearing is set correctly.

Hi Stephen, yep it's a Mal Wood kit, very happy with it. Fitted the clutch pedal on the weekend.

Mal provides a very detailed instruction sheet, just hope I don't cock it up

I had one fitted to my Mustang, I'm very happy with it.  There was one hiccough; the hydraulic throw out bearing was set too far back and on a drive home it fell apart when I pushed the pedal too far, Johnny the guy that installed it added in another shim and set the pedal so it can't travel further than the stop.

Well done on the engine bay. Looks fantastic. And that molasses is brilliant stuff. I was thinking that pedal was gone!

 

Going back a year... the SL/R stripes were indeed original. I recently had a set made for mine and they look perfect in my opinion.

StephenSLR:  Working from memory he scribbled out 4mm (throw-out bearing) clearance and told me to use 1mm.  I will double check when I get home and start fitting it out.  May have been an issue with the earlier fit-outs.

Hard to believe it's been nearly 5-years since my last update, lot's has happened both with the Torana and my family.  Everyone will remember the the 'Photobuck Frock-Up of 14', that blew the wind out of sail...not real computer savy.  We moved towns (twice) since my last post...life got in the way i suppose, it happens to us all.

 

Anyways, the engine went in with the help of a couple of real good mates, some may recognise one of those from the next photo.  Col you are a champion matem, thanks for your help and encouragement over the last few years.

I'll struggle to post some of this in correct order, so please be patient with me

 

I wanted to de-clutter the engine bay and hide as much wiring as i could, so the battery and and washer bottle are in the boot.  I modified the bonnet release mechanism (inverted the cable tab holder) so that the cable is hidden as well, welded up the hole...

A little 'Billet Blinge' to smarten things up a little.  New carpet from Knox's...perfect.

 

One thing that i'll let everyone know about is the Aeroflow Rocker Covers.  The issue for anyone considering these is that they do foul with the standard Heater Box, which requires you to cut a section of the box away and re-fibreglass a section.  It worked out pretty well to be honest, specially as it was my first crack at fiberglassing.

Engine bay all finished.  A view of the modified bonnet latch. I started a boot fit out, but I'm having second thoughts.  I'd be really keen to see what some of the guys on this forum have done..

My panel beater wasn't keen for me to have the car sandblasted due to some previous jobs he had to fix, I had a soda blaster look at the car and he didn't want to touch it either so I stripped the paint back myself.  No real surprises except that the car had taken a hit to rear right quarter panel and had a fairly poor repair (lot's of bog) rather then fixing it properly.
