Hi everyone, here is my new toy.  I've had it for a month or so now, will be a long'ish-term project to get it where I want.  First job is to get it roadworthy so I can enjoy it for awhile :driving:

Originally a Manual 253, it's now a 308 Auto.

Now for bits that need that need a little attention:

Battery Bay, or what's left of it:

Passenger Side Rear Door:

Rear Window:

Drivers Side Sill:

So here's the plan:

- Remove the Trimatic and replace with T5 gearbox;

- Return interior to original style; Torana front seats, Centre Console, Steering Wheel etc - 62V (Doeskin) Interior.

- It has a Commodore diff with 3:08 ratio, will go to 3.55 or maybe 3.7, maybe 9";

- Power Steering;

- 15" Wheels (yet to be decided by I'm swaying towards GTS style), 8's front, 10" rear;

- Panel (no experience at all in this area, may need to outsource as I don't want to cock it up);

- Paint....and I'd like to hear what people think?  I'm keen on Barbados or maybe Absinth Yellow (with the painted Orange Stripe).  Given that it's a genuine SLR I'd like to hear what people think?

Cheers

Rob

What do you mean by 'the painted orange stripe'?

It's "only" an L32 SL/R, and it's already been hacked for flares, and doesn't have original motor/box/diff/wheels etc, so I see no reason to leave the colour original.

If it's already got a VN type Borg Warner diff, if you're only leaving a mild 308 in it, you shouldn't need to go to a tractor diff...

The rust doesn't look too bad, and the flares etc all look to line up alright. If you're any kind of handy with a grinder and a welder, the body work shouldn't be too daunting.

Looks like a good start! Have fun with it :spoton:

Grouse car.

The kickpanel mod is questionable but like I said, great looking car.

Well done

Painted orange stripe? never heard of an SL/R with one of those before! they belong on a SS. What is the cars original color? the tags should tell you.

GTS wheels are a nice touch, i prefer them more these days than hotwires..

RIM-010:  Thanks for the comments, you have given me some food for thought re change of paint. I thought there was a photo in Torana Tough, but couldn't find it this morning.   I missed a great buy a few months back and that car had the stripe, I'll try and find a photo of that car.

Emu: The kick panels have already been removed.

AD_75:  The original colour was Monterey Green but it's had a cheap re-spray to a darker Green, which still looks ok....from 10 feet.

This is the stripe I was talking about.  The bloke that owned the car was confident that it was standard factory.

I wouldnt be too sure about that really..looking at that car its got flares and a bonnet scoop something which the base model SL/Rs never had from factory either. :dontknow: I could be wrong but ive never seen an original SL/R with those stripes before?

Nice vehicle, plans sound good. Is the colour Jade Green? Awful colour.

That L34/mock is soooooo sexy!
