Your SLR has rust for sure but its not that bad. Personally I'd go the original colour
Yeah agreed, you paid good money for a 74 LH SL/R why not keep it along original lines? Btw sorry if i shot down your orange stripe idea its just one of my dislikes..seeing a LH SL/R get turned into an LX lookalike, it is your car though so thats what matters most!

Thanks for the comments guys, I am swaying towards the orginal colour. The photo Kev posted (less the rear spoiler) is exactly what I had in mind.....flared without bonnet or rear spoilers.
AD_75: No dramas mate, I just liked the colour scheme.
Anywho. Been doing some clean up of the interior, mainly rear seat and door trims. To set the scene, someone has fitted Black coupe seats in past, in an effort to make it blend in they have then fitted Black carpet, fitted a set of black seat covers to the rear seats, then had a Holden flag draped over them.
I pulled the seat covers off and found the seats are reasonable, except for one tear on the rear base, but were covered in green over-spray and 40-years of grim. So I went to work. They have come up really well.......like a numpty I forgot to take photos before I started.
You can see the tear in the seat as well as some persistent paint that doesn't want to move.
The extent of the tear.
Rear Seat Base
Seat Back #01
Seat Back #02 - Look closely you should be able to see some green paint.

One of the things that I wanted to fix was the fuel filler tube set-up. The inlet is located at the rear, high and in the centre of the tank and as such there is bugger all room. There is a 2" hose that has been pushed upwards that has resulted in a huge kink, eventually it would have split.
This is the hose:
This is the result, note the angle of the number plate:

This is how the number plate now sits
Oh, and I picked these up this afternoon as well

Paul, according to Kev, Mark found the car somewhere on the Gold Coast but Kev couldn't remember the previous owners name.

Nothing serious to report BUT I'm having a shit hot time cruzing around Mackay over the last month or so.
Managed to find some Torana bucket seats at last, which according to the wife and all her FB friends is the funniest thing they've seen in a long time....bloody philistine's.
Passenger Seat (Good one first)
Drivers Seat.....
The upside is that bolstering, frames and sliders are perfect. I'll get them fitted and just use some throw-over covers for the time being as I can't see the point in getting them reupholstered with much work to be done.
Cheers

I wouldnt be too sure about that really..looking at that car its got flares and a bonnet scoop something which the base model SL/Rs never had from factory either. I could be wrong but ive never seen an original SL/R with those stripes before?
i have an lx with the same stripe i have seen red lx slr with an orange stripe and a red with an orange

Yeah cheers mynna, i meant LH SL/R when i was typing it out in my mind but the LH part never made it into the final post, ive seen another orignal 4.2 LX SL/R recently with the stripe too so yes the base model LX SL/Rs did have them.

What do you mean by 'the painted orange stripe'?
It's "only" an L32 SL/R, and it's already been hacked for flares, and doesn't have original motor/box/diff/wheels etc, so I see no reason to leave the colour original.
If it's already got a VN type Borg Warner diff, if you're only leaving a mild 308 in it, you shouldn't need to go to a tractor diff...
The rust doesn't look too bad, and the flares etc all look to line up alright. If you're any kind of handy with a grinder and a welder, the body work shouldn't be too daunting.
Looks like a good start! Have fun with it
Go the Flares, looks tuffer. Paint it factory colour if you want its your car.
