Yep, It will be painted the original Monterey Green, with standard 62v interior. Flares will stay, but no boot or bonnet spoilers.

I think the owner is on here. I don't recall his name, but i'm sure he is part of the Canberra Torana Club.

Col, I met the owner of this one at Toranafest, it's a real nice example for sure.

Nice car, but more importantly, nice owner! :)

I chatted to him for a while about it last year. My apologies for forgetting the name. Jason?

Scotchfest was too short.

Well peoples, even though it's been four months I haven't actually done too much to the Torana but I have collected a few bits and pieces.

A mate of mine just happened to have a heap of spares from an SLR he pulled apart 20-years ago but never got around to putting it back together so I picked up some spares:

Unfortunately some of the parts store in buckets ended up with water in them and a few bits got rusty over the years.

I was real close to throwing the lot out but remembered a few references to the use of molasses for cleaning up rust.  Living in Mackay means that molasses is real easy to come across so I had nothing to loose.  The potion I ended using was 1-litre molasses to 4-litres water, with these items being left in the mix for 5-weeks.

Took the lid off....

Hosed the parts down with the hose:

The items started turning yellow before they dried, I've sprayed them all with possum piss to preserve them for a while but results are impressive.

I picked this up from a forum member.  Imported a Mustang extension housing and other required bits and pieces.  Found a couple of problems when we opened it up but should be back together this week.  I still need a few other bits before I can do the conversion but I'm nearly there :spoton:

Top job with the pedals Rob, how did the spring on the clutch pedal hold up, mine corroded and nearly fell to bits, lucky I found another one.

Nice score with the SL/R bits n pieces, steering wheel and gearbox, also reminds me to pull my finger out and paint my steering wheel.

Hi Mort, yeah the spring is a little pitted but should still do the job I reckon.

Hi there, it seems soooo long since my last post, and it has, with highs and a heap of lows.

So by late October I had collected all of the parts required to convert from Auto to T5.  A couple of mates gave me a hand to remove the auto, which was simple enough, however we found that the rear-main seal was leaking like no tomorrow.  Pulled the engine, removed the crank and found that the seal was dry and had spun 60 degrees.  On top of that the crank was scored and the piston to bore gap was +.007" so off to the doctors that went.

Some of the T5 bits

The engine came back from rehab, so I did a quick mock up of T5, extractors and inspection cover.  Also had to set-up the clearance on the Hydraulic Throw-Out Bearing.

The inspection cover had to be modified to suit the new bell-housing and clearance with the P/S extractors is close.  The mock-up saved me a heap of time because I would have tried to fit the inspection cover last, which will not work and must be fitted with the engine.

Having to rebuild the engine has thrown my original plan off track, I had plans to refurbished the engine, but not at the minute.

I've known there was is rust in the old girl, so with the engine out I (with the able assistance of Statler) will tackle some of that and tidy up the engine bay.

What needs to happen:  Replace battery bay panel, and radiator support panel, hide some wiring, battery to the boot and tidy up the engine bay a bit.

Some photos of the rust and where I am at the moment.  Progress is slow because the car is in an open car port and we have had a heap of rain over the last month.

Thanks Jack, it seems like I'm going backwards most of the time.
