G'day, it's been over 6months since Iv touched my LH, the last thing I did was cut the rear wheel tubs out thinking I'd mini tub it over the x-mas holidays....

... instead I ended up getting married in November which made me broke, then in December I blew the 253 in my HX daily & instead of rebuilding it or putting in a reco I ended up putting a LS1 & T56 in it which REALLY made me broke....

.... So anyway, now I want to start focusing back on the torana again & get it going. But first I got to finish off the rear end & get a diff built. I want to use a diff fuel tank so I want to cut the boot floor out & delete the spare wheel well while I'm at it.
I don't want to go to a rear chassis clip because I'm unsure whether it'l be able to pass RWC, plus I don't want to spend a truck load or go ladder bar rear end etc...

Pretty much I just want to get some ideas & pics on what others have done & what would be the best solution. Ideally I want to get the biggest tire possible under it, say 265-295 so I'm hoping just mini tubbing it will be the easiest/cheapest option. The car will have around 450-500rwhp & mostly see the strip with the occational weekend cruise & drive through bottl'o run.

Cheers, Nig.

14 inch wheel tubs, wheels are 20x10.

Four linked rear end. Fully engineered as a four seater too.

Sweet, but I I was more after pics & info of the boot area & under the car shots as I know what they look like when they've been done & all finished....they look awesome!

There is a bit of info and some pics in my build thread of how I tackled it. I use 275/60R15's but would be able to fit a 295 easily.

About halfway down this page is where I cut out the wheel tubs.

Yeah thanks 4 that guys, appreciate it.

I thought as soon as you "touched" any part of the rail it was a big fat NO-NO & then it was un-registable?

My torana prob won't ever pass a rwc but it be close, but if I chopped the rails it be the nail in the coffin so to speak.

I have seen a couple where they have folded up their own rail sections and replaced the stockers further inboard.

Looked standard if you didn't know what you were looking at.

The rail behind the diff is the real restriction to wider tyres, you really have no option but to move it.

Well what's the biggest rim & tire you can fit on the back if you move the shocks inboard of the rails & tub it right to the rail?

The tyre will hit the rail well before it hits the shock.

Cut the shroud off the shock and beat the rail a bit and you could get a 245 in there.

Are the rails one whole piece? Like can the spot welds be drilled & remove them as a whole?

& Anyone thought of swapping the rails over left to right so they bend opposite & come to the middle of the boot? Just thinking outside the box.... quite possibly a little too far outside the box....

G'day mate, that looks awesome!!! How bad do you wish they did that from the factory!!!
With the engineering side of things did they even pick that? It looks stock.

& how big of a rim & tire have you got under there?

The engineer was happy with what i had done, at the moment i run 245/60 14 BFG's on 14"x7" rims and and 235/60 15 MT streets on 15"x7". With the right off set rim you could fit a 265 but that would also depend on what size rim was used.

I also done this to my other torana, you can see the problem with just moving the rail at the back the tyre starts hitting on everything else.

just to clarify, im minitubbing mine to the rail and cutting out most of the coil spring pocket out as im running coil overs, plan is to run 15x8.5" rim with 3 3/8" backspace and wanted to run a 275/50/15 tyre.  As im not planning on moving the rear rails inboard can anyone see this combo working?? if i have i would settle for a 255 or 265 tyre, cheers ryan
