Talk to an engineer. People have been saying that 'you can't put a 308 in an LC/J after x month this year' for the 7 years that I've been a member here.

Talk to an engineer and get the actual facts, not what someone has heard down the pub.

You should be able to go up to a 5.5 ltr according to the NCORP rules providing you can get the engineer to use the LC GTR XU1 weight of 1102kg which they should as it states to use the heaviest model

This will put you in the 5 x curb weight catergry thus the 5.5ltr

Not sure how LJ owners will go as the heaviest LJ was under 1100kgs so only 4 x curb weight = 253 or maybe 283 if your lucky

There is a paragraph that is under the below table on the doc but I can't find it atm, it does say something about being able to go bigger with apropriate mods but its worded funny and is probably a grey area.

The heavyest lc/lj torana was 1054kg. There was never one over 1100.

GMH's published curb weight for the LJ XU1 was 2417lb = 1096.332kg.

Going on the Engine Capacity calc's (NA) 1096.332kg x 4 = 4385.328 cc

It's ridiculous that something like slightly different designed wheels 40 years ago could've meant that 308's were a bolt in swap now...

Hey Bomber,
I got the LC XU1 weight from Dr Terry's book, 60 years of Holden so I hope it's right. I bought the book mainly for that info to show an engineer as I want to stick a SBC in my LC S.

Cheers Bullet

1102kg for an LC XU1, I don't think so. The LC XU1 was approx 18 kgs lighter than the LJ XU1.

Had a look at my workshop manual....

CF262415-C95F-4904-B585-C4DC2216D436-738

It recons

0e5d78da-652b-4ede-8eaa-7423172e823e_zps

So yeah LC is lighter. By a long shot.....

Dont have DR Terry's latest book, do have the 50 years book but cant find it. He is a member of this here forum perhaps someone could pm him and ask where he got that number from???

Dont get me wrong i would be delighted if someone could find some proper proof that a LC or LJ was over 1100kg, even though im heavily against v8's in them that would open up new avenues for us that like turbo sixes....

Cheers.

Sorry Bomber not sure what you mean there,
I was told Dr Terry was an expert on Holden history, I don't believe everything I read on the net but a published book is a different story. Hopefully the engineer I choose is as gulable as I am!

proper documentation would mean something from GMH we can show the government and have them change the weight rating they have for LC/LJ Toranas....

YOu dont think an engineers certificate is actually worth jack do you? If it goes over the pits and there numbers are different your still #@$^%&....

Cheers.

DJ, keep in mind the 82911 kerb weight listed in the LC workshop manual is for a GTR not a GTR XU1.

LC GTR XU1 didn't exist at the time the LC workshop manual was originally released (1969) and no revisions were made to include the XU1 in subsequent reprints.
