Dear Torana friends,

did someone order Torana LH windscreen locking strips and corner clips and did get the right ones?

2011 i ordered locking strips and corners for my Torana to Germany.

The locking strip corners didnt fit for the front and rear. ( They looked like not deep enough for the strip and also two of the front ones should have a more open angle than 90 degrees)

I did contact Rare Spares and they told me about the known problem and said that the corners are wrong manufactured.(For the thicker than original locking strip)

Last month i was in Melbourne and bought me a new locking strip set from Rare spares.

At home i found out that the windscreen kit has still the thicker locking strip. But the locking strip corners are made now for the thicker strip.

The bad thing is that two of the four corners have still the wrong angle.

The angle has to be more open than 90 degrees.

For the rear its the same problem.

Is there nobody testing the parts before going over the counter ?

Did someone get the right ones ?

Uwe

its about time they pull there head out off there ass and stop and think why are we having all these problems how many times do they get it wrong, the more i hear about these guys i shake my head , but on that note at least they are trying, all i can say is go back to the start and look at who is giving the go ahead to produce these parts and give them a kick up the ass . I have spent thousands off dollars on your gear but im getting tiered off returning stuff .

cheers sting

1st and most important thing that needs to be done is make the correct Mylar insert to suit LH/LX/UC instead of flogging a generic Mylar that is sort of close enough.

As you can see in Uwe's pic the Mylar insert (which looks more like the LC/LJ Mylar) isn't even close to matching the original LH/LX/UC escutcheons.

I did have a leftover length of NOS Mylar (not sure if I threw it out now). I offered it to RSP some time ago but I believe I was advised they had the situation under control. I also have some spare genuine windscreen corner pieces I can supply them. No use to me.

I bought my UC with no windscreen so I bought a length of locking strip and a set of new corner pieces. The original corner pieces turned up while looking through the bits and pieces which came with the car but does this mean this they will not fit the new locking strip I have bought and I will have to use the bodgy ones... ?

I might give it all to Windscreen O'Briens to sort out if that is the case.

You would think that Rare Spares could do better.

Sit your original UC escutcheons over the end of the Mylar insert you bought and see how well they match.

I for one would be interested to see a pic of the result.

Just had a look at the Mylar profiles that Rares sell. Looks like they supply only one profile (K540) to suit HB through to UC Torana. The profile is clearly only suitable for HB through to TA Torana.

ERRR

but the LC - LJ  windscreen rubber seems to really not accept the bead locking strip and the cover, the joiner seems to not sit flush in the rubber with the locking strip engaged.

I have evidence and when i tried to settle it back down it popped out ?

Is it just me, or do those corner locking things look like HB-TA items???

Agree DJ, the corner escutcheon that is 90 degrees looks like the LC/LJ type but the one that is an acute angle wouldn't suit.

I'll take a punt and say they wouldn't fit 100% with genuine/original HB - TA Mylar insert though, only the generic Mylar.

They are old and shitty. I'd think they would be good for RSP to use and destroy them to make suitable repros.
