Are you sure about that dave my 73 gtr has the ribbed sunvisors and they are original

Yes Gene, I am sure. The vinyl pattern on your headliner and sun visors is called Herringbone not ribbed.

GMH also had cloth seat inserts in Herringbone pattern, ie: 40Z trim code.

Hope its relevant being a HQ Monaro but thought the details might help with

narrowing the time frame.

11/71 built 80837 GTS - Roebuck seats & trim with Herringbone roof linning & visors

Yes  Jono

The moulded foam sun visors were for ADR compliance and it was common practice for GMH to introduce ADR production changes earlier than the mandatory ADR commencement date. So maybe if production stocks of the most popular coloured pre ADR visors ran out earlier than expected they just started fitting the new ADR compliant visors and matching headliners.

Gene, your visors are correct but that vinyl hood lining was wrong.

Gday Dave, can you enlighten me on the visors?

Are the foam ones a solid foam all the way thru?

seen a broken foam 1.it was sorta like a areo bar

The ones in the Q are sorta "loose" or squishy like their a vinyl

covered thing.

Yeah Jono, the moulded foam visors are just a chunk of yellowish coloured foam moulded around a metal blade with the mounting rod attached to it.

Your HQ visors, they are Herringbone pattern vinyl with a pressed heat welded join around the perimeter and the vinyl isn't stretched tight???

If so they sound like the same manufacture as the LC Roebuck pattern visors.

I wonder if HQ had Herringbone pattern headliner then from day one and it was only the visor construction that changed in Jan '72?

Yeah Tony, ^^^^ that looks like it could be Herringbone pattern although a close up pic would be useful.

Yea, it's ribbed to me. I thought herringbone had angled ribs.

Tony thanks for the better pic of your headlining. As Boomfunk said, that is Herringbone pattern.

Yep thats them spot on

I've got a very good pair of Tan herringbone visors (torana) the same construction as my Qy's I was going to use as my moulded ones are buggered but these would not be correct for my 7/73 XU 1..right?

Correct Jono, however in lieu of good moulded visors being rarer than rocking horse poo they would be the next best thing IMO.

So, these tan coloured Herringbone visors came from an LC Torana? Interesting!

Yeah havnt seen any moulded 1s in reasonable nick so these with a coat of black will do me.

I think they came from an LC...cant remember.

They're slightly smaller in size than the moulded & have a chrome mount/swivel & with HOLDEN 7432731 LH 273

& 7432730 RH 273 on them.

The moulded one has a silver/grey paint on the swivel, what finish should I have? chrome or silver/grey paint?

Hi guys...old post..as some of you know my 10th month 69 S has the herringbone sunnys and hoodlining .im sure
it hasnt been changed since she rolled out the door.
I guess adel plant specifically used herringbone from
the start right through and other plants used roebuck
then long grain?? I only say this as the cars ive had
(6cyl) 69-73 had herringbone ...

Cheers maz

Maz, LC Torana had Herringbone pattern headliner (same as HT Holden) from SOP up to HG Holden release in June 1970.

At HG Holden release LC Torana changed to Roebuck pattern headliner same as HG. LC Torana trim suffixes also changed at this time.

eg LC 82911 trim codes changed from 40X to 40V, 41X to 41V etc.

Herringbone headliner was reintroduced in LJ Torana.
