Greetings

Just purchased some lowered king springs for my LJ Torana and the rears vary in free length by 13 mm; Is this normal?

The standard king springs i took out had the same free length.

Cheers

Loui

I have a brand new set of KHRL-09's in the shed so I thought I'd go check.

They are both exactly the same length which is around 20cm.

Measured by putting the base of the spring on the bench, putting the tape measure through the middle of the spring onto the bench and measuring to the top of the top coil.

Hope that helps give you an idea of which one is the wrong one :-)

Yep so the one that is 213mm is too long, maybe a standard one?

Ok, springs were returned today.

Spoke to kingsprings direct and they say the free length of both should be 200mm

The standard height king springs i removed sit at 225mm. so i guess the defect spring must of been damaged in manufacturing somehow, dunno how it passed the rigorous testing that king springs claim to do on their webpage.

Only the finest high stress material from One Steel is used, shipped to the plant in an annealed state, then bar peeled and polished to the exact size to remove all surface defects and cut to length.

The material is heated in electric furnaces to 1000 degrees Celsius, formed on computer controlled machines and hardened by quenching in oil to achieve a hardness of 62 HRC.

The spring is then tempered by electronic controlled heat treatment to 500 degrees Celsius and hardness of 52 HRC.

Spring end grinding is applied if required.

Shot peening of the surface is completed to increase durability.

Every spring is solid scragged, tested and a full and final inspection is carried out.

All coil springs are powder coated for the most durable finish and offering maximum presentation.

The springs are finally labelled by inkjet, packed as pairs and ready for shipping. Large stocks are held for immediate supply.

Guess someone dropped the ball, but not to worry, new springs coming.
