sedan with 4 wheel disc in early 1979. He was a mad Holden & Brock fan & owned some nice cars. These are
his recollections from 34 years ago when he took the attached pics.
His first long trip in the UC was to Qld where he went to Saturday practice 1979 ATCC at Lakeside. While
he was taking pics of the HDT cars with his new Polaroid instant camera, George Sheppard asked if they
could borrow his camera to take some pics of their front spoiler signage. It had something to do with the
signage for the upcoming VB Commodore. He lent them the camera & when they found out he was from SA,
they asked him if he was going to the Adelaide round which was coming up next. He said yes, so they gave
hime some free passes & told him to call in & see them on the Saturday for a coffee.
He went to the Adelaide round on the Saturday & went to see them & bought them a coffee. Sheppard asked
him if he would like to go for a ride with Harvey, as "Slug was going out to bed in the brakes". He said
hell yeah, & went out with Harvey for 4 or 5 laps. He got to know Brock, Harvey, & Shepperd quite well.
The next time he saw Brock was at The Adelaide Motor Show some time after Bathurst 79. He's not sure if
it was late 79 or early 80. While they were talking Brock told him the 79 Bathurst car was for sale &
asked him if he wanted to buy it. Price was $10000. He asked Brocky if it could be road registered.
Brocky said yes, but you would need to detune the engine & put different wheels on it. My mate thought
about it, how he was going to transport it, where he was going to keep it, but it was too much money for
him. $10000 was a lot of money back then. His pics are attached.
Lakeside pics.
Brand new UC SL, 6cyl, 4 speed, full instrumentation, 4 wheel disc brakes
Changed oil & filter on way home to SA as first service was due.
Adelaide pics to follow.

Yeah they are the sort of pics I love, ie not posing, not perfectly set up, they capture the real things you don't see normally.

Those Photo's made my heart rate rise .......IMO, it was the best era in Aus. motor racing .... still a bit of a family sport, yet for the time, some pretty potent and well presented racing cars... and no boring parity rules like today. Thanx heaps Pete
