Hi, can anyone give me nice accurate measurements for the size and position of the tunnel gear shift hole in a LX please.

My car was originally a column shift so I have a virgin tunnel ( that doesn't sound right) lol

I would like to use all the correct sealing boots and rubbers so I need it as per factory.

Probably already on hear some where but I searched with no result.

Appreciate your help

Thanks

AL :)

Here's the dimensions I got. Hope you have that little hole in the middle as thats what i measured off. If not I'll get another reference. The hole dimensions are a little rough as its a curve but I measured the straight distance

there is a square metal plate that goes around the edge of the boot, thats what holds it in place. I'd cut the hole first then wait till you get a boot and retaining plate to mark out the bolt holes as its hard to measure due to the curve.

Hi Al, here is a template I sketched from the top if it's any help. I just lay an A4 piece of paper over the hole & taped it down each side (fairly close to the curve) & sketched the lines & hole locations on that. I've marked the centerline in red that is from the reference hole Brett measured from to the centre of the console bracket in front (shown in pic) the back edge of the hole measured about 133-135mm same as Brett's as well. So if you can print this out to scale (added scale to the sketch to help) it might work for you. The hole diameter is about 12-13mm & it has similar nut clips that are used for the front guards. Hope this helps along with Brett's dimensions :D

Another distance for you is in the picture above the hole in the centre of the console bracket where it touches the tunnel its 125mm to the front edge of the square hole, check this against the 133mm to the back edge of the hole and you shold be right

If I recall correctly there is a difference in the position of the hole between 4 cylinder manual cars & the rest.
The Sunbirds that I converted years ago needed their shifter holes modified to take an M20 shifter as the Opel shifter sat in a different spot.
Were any of the cars that these measurements were taken from originally 4 cylinder manual cars?
