I know this is old but somehow this events début went by without me attending. Although I am no drag racer I do like high speed and watching rare interesting cars.

Goodwood has always been on the agenda for me.

There's a hatch in there I recognize from our first forum run.

If we would have known it was on could have arranged to take a few cars up for a run. Looks like the wind might have played a factor? I gather it must have had some sand on the track because no one broke 300kph over the1km run. 300+ on road tyres still should have been achieved by at least some of those cars. I think they should organise some sweepers next year to make sure its a fair surface. Definitely might look at taking the old big block 1.9l starfire powered sunbudgie up to give those Mclarens and Lambos a run. :gun:

Can't have that eurotrash thinking they are king tutt ...... they have to first beat the king of Australian speed the mighty torana sunbudgie. :stirpot:  (not quite enough hp to blow the bango up  - hate to embarrass ones self - LOL )

I imagine you could muster up something better to bring than that. :P

Or at least ask them to make sure the track goes down hill if you have the awesome grunt of the 1.9 I suppose :D

I got to share driving duty s in a friends car there yes the track was very slippery
The airstrip is very gravely but that's the type of surface that was used to make the runway
You will not find to many cars that are able to do 250km standing start in 1 km the car that won was detuned for better traction but still would of made 800hp at the wheels
It has been driven to a drag strip in road trim and run 9.6s

Yes figured it was slippery. Brute power not always the answer (ask the xu-1's when it rained) Standing 1km a bit of a different ask out of a car than 400m. Also no slicks and no ideal surface. Any cross wind?

I still was surprised some of the 4wd with the better distribution traction controls (ie nissans) couldn't do more than 272kph.

Most important what was the event like?

Drags have never been my scene but 1km on road rubber is a tempting challenge.

Or at least ask them to make sure the track goes down hill if you have the awesome grunt of the 1.9 I suppose

Tell you what Mr Apple Pie that sunbudgie might be rock stock original factory, but she still has ever bit of Hp that Holden blessed it with. :stirpot:

Fancy Italian machines should be scared of the brute force of the budgie.

Its got "radial tyres" the same diameter they use in F1.

It doesn't need fancy traction computers or 4wd. Plus it is yellow with wood trim and has the scottish kilt pattern trim so that's got to be worth something?

Is that the oil filter above the alternator ?

At least it has a yanky battery in it :D

And an inbuilt good quality clock. Obviously Holden intended it for timing the warp speed that the car is capable of when you have that big banger singing  !!!

Actually, the clock in the white hatch I had (the 2nd one, with a sunroof) worked too, amazingly enough.  Hard to find a 70's yanky car with a working clock, lol.

How about some suspension ideas to tame the beast that is the 1.9 ?  :D

All of those fancy expensive Euro supercars got blown away by a 1989 Subaru Liberty WAGON that had a misfire - 2nd fastest on the day behind the Turbo 6 falcon :)
