I think the intrusion bars fixed it, as my LH doors flapped at the top and when a unused set of A9X doors were put on it never happened again, the new hinges went on to so that may have helped.

That is correct there is no difference in the rigidity of the shells. The difference was in the 1977 introduction of the heavy door intrusion bars. Anyone who has picked up or re-skinned the doors with and without intrusion bars will know the difference. Especially in the big two door (hatch) doors its very significant.

Hi Tim,

2/76 didn't and the 5/76 did:-

http://www.gmh-toran...rs/#entry567628

So we still have 3/76 and 4/76 to see when the Intrusion Bar came in, hmm.

And ADR29 made all have them in 1977.

Red you wouldnt have been referring to the A9X hatch that raced for a big team at Bathurst then got chopped for a Sports Sedan?

Believe some interesting stuff was found.

Don't forget Perkins Commodore 2005. 302kph I think.

But getting back to 1979, and working out the gearing in Brocks car, doesn't the tyre "grow" in diameter from centrifugal force as the speed increases?

an increase of say 30mm of expansion in diameter, would get you an extra 13kph,

at 6500rpm x 3.08 diff in top.

good thinking Laurie but

Thats bloody impressive. I hate that video on youtube where they 'compare' the HDT A9X hatch with a V8 supercar and I think a VZ SS around Bathurst. The V8 supercar flies past the Torana down conrod like its not even moving when I think it should in fact just about give the V8 supercar a run for its money.

It broke a valve spring during that demo

The fastest bikes back in the `70s were doing ~300kmh down Conrod..

Graeme Crosby got a Kawasaki 750 triple around Bathurst in ~1:13 in `79, about 5 seconds quicker than that TWR Jag V12..

I know the story as you know, but considering the circumstances at the moment it's not something to be commented on.

Will see if Red knows the story first.

More secret men's business hey?

Would it matter if these cars weren't worth so much?

Doubt it.

There will be a time when all can be revealed.

Unfortunately it isnt now.

And before anyone has a whinge.

This is about something higher than the forum.

But here are some cheats known from days gone by.

The Fords had a foot pump for the windscreen washers.

This didnt always have water in the reservoir.

The hoses didnt always go to the windscreen.

A rule was brought in allowing fuel filters.

It didnt specify the size of the filter.

In the days when the cars had to carry spare wheels.

There were wheels that werent wheels.

A magnet certainly wouldnt stick to the "steel" rim

Yes was a 3.55 ratio where it should have been a 3,08 , Bowden’s couldn’t get one in time as Dan even asked did I have one spare,The A9X was way down in top speed like in 1979 Bathurst so the Vy would have had a hard time if the right diff was in , regards Terry
