Just be aware that tacho will not work unless modified and that costs about $200

Thanks mate I had no idea. What about if I install an aftermarket tacho with say a shift light, would that sort of tacho work after the mod?

Thanks Muzzy. Is it still the same coloured wires that need to be bridged? I havent heard of doing it this way before, all I am after is 12 volts at the coil. Certainly dont want to stuff anything up as the engine runs perfectly but I think it would benefit from a bit extra spark.

As mention take the wires to run to provide a relay trigger, I have done this, have a good 12v at relay, running a bosch elec dizzy and bosch electronic coil on my 6 sweet as 1.5mm gap plugs

So I guess thats a yes to the wires that need bridging at the plug near the booster being pink and yellow.

The wires to join together are at the ignition switch, not at the booster.

Access is gained simply by dropping the steering column.

The procedure of removing the steering wheel & pressing a clip is to remove the ignition lock barrel. not the switch. The switch is located further down the column & mounted on the top of it.

Ah ha. Thanks Terry you've been a great help. Can you confirm for me that my standard Torana Tacho wont work after the mod? I am looking at buying an aftermarket tacho with a shift light if indeed it does.

We need to go back a couple of steps here with your mod. Is your ignition points or electronic?

I'm a bit confused here too,if the car is an LJ the ign switch is on top of the column as stated and you need to bridge the pink and yellow, and if your running a Bosch dizzy the tacho will work

You lost me with Kettering Brian lol.

I know what I have to do the only question I have is. If I bridge the 2 spades at the ignition switch will my tacho continue to work?

Ignition wires and tacho wires are on two different circuits, whether your tacho functioned before and/or whether it will function after the ignition mod is besides the point.

Coil negative always goes to Tacho in parallel except in the case of old smiths tacho, they go in series
FYI Kettering is a system fitted with points

Be a case of takin' it for a good hard test thrash before you buy it, I'd reckon

& make sure you check the body out - in hard daylight, since that photo might be 20 years old..
