I think the top control arm ballpoint was originally riveted on (please correct me if I'm wrong) and a replacement one comes with 4 bolts and nuts.

Lower control arms are pressed in.

Old thread, but saves me making a new one.

I have just stripped my K-frame and decided to grind off the nut on the lower control arm as it wouldn't budge!

So i have tried hitting the ball joint out with a hammer and a steel rod with no luck. Do i need to get it
pressed out? Or is there another way?

are they the original lower ball joints if they have been replaced at some stage some people put a tack weld on them for added security as i have found out this week rebuilding my sons front end clean the lower control arm and ball joint and check if no tack weld then press it out....

You may have to heat the stub axle around the ball joint stud to break the seal. Don't overheat the stub axle by making it red hot. You'll probably set the ball joint rubber boot and grease alight so do this outside where you can't set the garage ablaze

You may be lucky that once the stub is heated enough the joint will pop under the pressure of the suspension spring.

Either install a spring compressor to prevent the whole shebang from potentially flying apart or wear your cricket pads, box and a pair of steel cap boots. :)

Almost forgot, don't go smacking the stub axle with a hammer (if required) until it has cooled down and don't quench it with water to cool it faster.

it's not in the car. It's all disconnected from the k-frame.

Ok, I'll see how i go. Same process for upper and lower ball joints

With the bottom ball joint make sure you do what i said and check it hasn't been tack welded then press out.... top ones you need to drill the rivets out then just bolt the new one in...

I was going to go with the Kingwood Country Hamburger With the Lot. Not sure what brand ball joints they use, but I've heard even MOOG's quality

is not what it used to be? are there any issues with the ones Kingwood supply?

Biggest issue with ball joints I've seen is home mechanics fitting them new and not pumping them full of grease.
I've even seen them without the grease nipples fitted. Damn dangerous.

probably, unfortunately a lot of people talk on the internet without having experience. I would opt to get them if there is a significant difference

between Moog's and the ones Kingwood Country supply in that kit. Just seems like a much more affordable option to buy them all in one package?

any experience with the kit anyone?

Moogs top balljoints maybe not what they used to be...

I snapped the end clean off one of mine. No torque wrench - but no harder than the others I have done. disappointed but put it down to a one-off........
