Datto if you could answer this question for me it would be greatly appreciated.

What is the best way to get a broken front caliper bleed nipple out of the housing.

The housing is a PBR cast iron type LH caliper and the nipple is broken level with the surface, I would like to try and save the thread if at all possible.

Thanks

Al

Tricky but doable

You need to apply heat to the nipple... then cool quickly... repeat... tap an easy out into the centre of the bleeder and work it slowly... don't break the easyout in the hole... they are hardened and unlikely to ever come out then the caliper goes in the bin

Ok thanks Datto done what you said and removed it perfectly with absolutely no thread damage...worked well.
Bead blasted clean and they came up perfect...like new.

Just another question.... what size thread are the nipples and are they available from a brake repairer also
are pistons and seal kits still available and what part numbers are each part. for LH cast callipers PBR
thanks
Al

P4433 should be the bleed nipple

3/8 unf thread

The caliper kits are K1043S which is coincidentally the same kit as a Commodore... just throw out the slide pin boots you don't need

Same piston # too DB2746

Done that before, followed by a broken drill bit! Surprisingly after many hours swearing and some very fine welding I did save that one but didn't expect to be so lucky

Yeh Thanks Datto for the part numbers and the tip that the seal kits are the same as commodore.

I got all the new bits, removed the broken bleeder with ease and recoed the calipers and they came out great.
Thanks again Datto.

76lxhatch. Fitter friend of mine showed me a great trick for problems like that. Get a washer with a hole smaller than the bit to be removed, or if not available, a small pice of scrap metal with hole drilled in it. Weld through the hole into the broken piece then weld a nut onto the washer/plate. Have used that trick many times since.

Yeh I know there crap lol, that's all I could get my hands on at my local parts shop.

These calipers are for the rego blue slip only, got a big brake setup to go on at a later date all set up and ready to go.
Just cant be Fr0cked with getting it engineered, I just want it on the road then worry about the bolt on mods later.

Hi all,

hope you don't mind me jumping in late and asking a question about bleed nipples on the brake calipers. Just recently went to bleed my brakes and no brake fluid came out of one nipple. I continued to loosen nipple, it resisted all the way out. Calipers are alloy and found the thread on the nipples full of alloy material and the thread in the caliper was stuffed (so I thought). Ran a tap down the hole and cleaned up the bleed nipple. Nipple goes back in ok but seems loose.

Question I want to ask is is there anything like loctite I could use the on nipple to make sure it stays secure in the caliper?

thanks

Mark
