I have just changed my ignition barrel with a rare spares POS item, anyway long story short, the original one I just pressed through the slot and the barrel popped out, the new one (chrome ring broke off on first turn) does not want to come out so easily.

Any ideas how to get this junk out without damaging the column? So I can install a genuine one?

Have you got the key inserted into the lock barrel?

The lock must also be in the off position.

Hmmm, does the lock turn with the key inserted or is it jammed in one position?

It turns but you need to jiggle it a bit first to get it to turn, if that makes sense.

I have swapped original ones plenty of times before with nil issues but this aftermarket garbage doesn't want to be removed.

Just a suggestion but if the lock is now cactus then try screwing self tapper into key hole & grab the head of screw with vice grips, Then try to push the locking flap down whilst having somebody else pull on the pliers......

There is no visible locking tab on the new barrel, its on the opposite side of the pot. You cant get to the tab to depress

Only one thing left to do then, remove the coffee pot from the column to access the other side.

LS1LX, we are sorry to hear of the trouble you have had. The Rare Spares guarantee would come into play here. If you could please return the faulty item along with your receipt to the Rare Spares distributor you purchased it from they would be happy to refund or exchange it. Once again our apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Regards,

Edan

Must be a common problem as I have now fitted the second Rares ignition barrel, first one jamed after about a month and I could not turn the engine off. The second barrel lasted a little longer when the lever that you use to turn the key just popped off on the floor. Thankfully I can still turn the key.

No I didn't keep the receipt as I thought I wouldn't have to replace it....

I just bought a genuine GHM one of Ebay....

Last post on this was 2013.....2 years ago...

The best part is, if your like me and brought a complete lock kit. To get your money back or an exchange you need to send the whole kit back.
For $100 or so are you going to d/a both front doors, boot lock then pack n send? Assuming you Still have your receipt

When you do a ground up restoration the last thing you want to do is pull stuff apart again and risk damaging anything. That's probably 99% of the reason rs don't get as many warranty claims
