I have a black dash that I installed around 18 months ago. All the black dash's I have seen have only contained the grain finish. However my one that I have doesn't have a grain finish to it. Did any dash's come out black that have the finish that mine does or would it be a grey dash from say an SLR thats been painted? Could be a wood grain dash thats been painted black as well but I think they had some sort of grain in them too?

Here's a close up pic of my dash and hopefully someone can tell me what this dash looked like originally?

No dash's came smooth in black

I have painted several wood grain dashs black and most people do them silver for a slr ss

the woodgrain is just as smooth as the grey slr dash

Hope this helps

Why? your car is an LH its the correct color heh..i wouldnt bother unless you're going to replace it with a black dash with the correct grain pattern.

I just think a grey dash will look better for the interior colour scheme. I have the SLR black seats with the grey golf ball inserts and want to get the same for the door trims. I might even just buy a black grain dash but I do like the look of the grey dash as well.

Have you got the LH or the LX seats?

Yeah the covers are new and they got recovered about 5 months ago. I think a grey dash would match this golf ball finish.

LX trim in a LH! sacrilege! :D is your car an SL or SL/R? Could always trade someone for a set of LH SL/R seats! :sofa:

Although i gotta admit i do like the LX SL/R Slate grey trim better then the LH version.

Sacrilege lol its only an L32 SL. I like this trim as well but the thing I dont like is the material doesn't breathe very well on warmish days but I guess thats why cloth inserts were invented.  :D

Got a black grain dash together with the lower dash and glove box lid a few months ago. Want to put it in soon but thinking i might paint it beforehand in black and give the edging a going over with a grey paint pen.

Does anyone know what type of paint and what colour black to use? Was thinking of just using a satin black.

IMHO only paint it as a last resort if it won't clean up satisfactorily.

They are made from ABS so acrylic lacquer will be ok, just apply a coat of plastic primer first.

This one has been painted black, and a pretty poor job has been done of it (with a spray can I'm betting).

I painted mine with that vinyl paint and I reckon Wayne's one above looks better than mine

To be honest though....once it was installed, I've never looked at it since  :spoton:

Thanks guys. That picture above is of the one that is already in my car, that will be coming out. Like I said I have a black grain one with the lower dash part as well which will look a whole lot better considering I have a console too. Waiting on a chrome heater cover which should be here later in the week then i'll tackle the dash.

I am surprised the vinyl spray is the one to go with but looking back I think I sprayed my console with that stuff and it also came out nice. I'll try and clean it up first, if that fails on with the paint.

I use KIWI boot polish Wayne.  The one in the squeeze bottle with the foam applicator.  Comes up perfect and can be redone at any time if need be.
