Been reading magazines of different torana builds and what not and seen some of them with there retro recaro seats... and they look mint!

question i pose is this; where do i acquire 2 of these? checked ebay and no luck.. is there a shop that reproduces them that anyone knows of??

Cheers,

What do you call retro?

The 'fishnet' headrest style ones (often with a standard headrest but that's just as nice) in Mitsubishi GSR Lancers, Isuzu Bighorns (I think that's right) and one or two other factory cars. Some identify them as Recaro, some don't. You just throw away the factory rails and use universal ones, keep combing eBay and something will pop up.

These are the ones I'm talking about:

heres what ive been up to while the forums were down, scored these seats second hand through www.protongtiforums.com, they cost me $800 plus freight and im really happy with them they are light years ahead of the standard lc seats and i think were pretty good value considering what you get for that money through saas or monza. supposedly proton want $1650 each for the seats brand new!

Those seats look way to modern in lc lj torana you can get away with them in an lh lx just my opinion
but i would love to have recaros in my daily driver not my gtr though to big and bulky

Completely agree, far too modern for LC/LJ IMO, just get away with it in LH-UC

Very nice Jason,

You can see they are smaller and look very comfy. Dave I

p.s. I wonder if the roll cage would wear out the leather

That is about right.

Just the bars make the size of the seat small in width which is the right size for the Torana. Dave I

Don't know about an official name but with those head rests almost everyone just calls them Recaro "Fishnets"

Any quality trimmer should be able to buid you a pair using frames from a more modern car. I am sure Steve from Cools could price a set.

I have started buying stuff out of Japan and getting some real bargains  to boot although recaro's for some reason are still stupidly expensive as freight and fees do add up on top of sale price which is reasonable anyway I had a quick look for you, found about 2000 sets of recaros, as for your fishnets there were about 100 sets. Average price was about $300 a pair, Ideally would buy with rails as well also be aware that air-bags will be removed prior to shipping as a legal requirement. I have use google and microsoft translate to make sense of the Japanese auction websites which can be a challenge as they translation can be a bit hard to understand fortunately most auctions include good pictures and detail damage.

as an example for you  $130 a pair

hatsumomo777-img600x450-1387980383rukkd5hatsumomo777-img600x450-1387980383t2ha1u

hatsumomo777-img600x450-13879803834wgopc

or if you are planning oon recovering them how about $11 dollors each

rsokinawa5381-img450x600-1387964724jeqpnrsokinawa5381-img450x600-1387964726rbwz4rsokinawa5381-img450x600-1387964726vttl0

if leather and money are what you want and have $1950

may8600-img600x450-1193662838lt1.jpgmay8600-img600x450-1193662869lt2.jpg

now the bad news those prices do not include freight and fees

Now to save money and make it easy on myself I have used and recommend (highly) Jesse Streeter

http://jessestreeter.com/

a drift racer living in Japan, here how it works

You find an item you want either from Yahoo auctions or some other auction site or from a manufacturer, he has discount deals with many suppliers

Email him with details on item

He emails you with buy price in AU $ to be paid into his Au bank account AND a estimate of freight and fees that will need to be paid prior to postage to you.

He then buys item for you and has it delivered to his warehouse where tires will be removed from wheels or air-bags from seats etc and item is repackaged ready for freight

He emails you will final amount to be paid into his account for freight and fees. and on receipt of money sends items to you

As an example I paid $805 for a set of Volk Racing forged wheels at auction

then two weeks later I paid $500 for freight and fees

Six weeks later delivered to my door they arrived total cost $1305.00 verses normal retail in Au of $3200

IMG_2739.JPG

Anyways hope that helps, I had another look before posting this and found a traditional old school looking stet for $216
