But I read that the racing will be only held over 1000 foot due to safety concerns in this article here:

Does anyone know if this has changed in the lead up to the event? In the article it states the reason for not running the full quarter is because they don't have enough concrete blocks :-/

So is there a shortage of concrete?

Hopefully it stays at 1/4mile in australia, just seems calder isnt ready for the top fuelers but im sure it will get there. 1000ft of top fuel goodness is better than none!

ANDRA is the only organization running top fuel over the 1/4 mile. After Scott Kalitta's fatal accident the NHRA changed it to 1000ft due to the speeds reached over 1/4mile.Hopefully it stays at 1/4mile in australia, just seems calder isnt ready for the top fuelers but im sure it will get there. 1000ft of top fuel goodness is better than none!
That is very interesting, I didn't realise that. The US can't bring in gun control, with 32,000+ gun deaths a year, but they can limit a sport that has been governed for over 60 years due to one unfortunate accident, (and obviously past accidents were considered, but) surely they can control run off areas and driver safety without radically changing the sport, the drivers know the risks involved.

1000ft also helps them keep engines together and therefore prevent some accidents, lots of fuel engines let go in the last part of the track.

Toranas were the flavour of the day more than any other model in super sport/stock classes over a dozen different toranas.
Great to see the Victorian guys have a huge crowd watching them compete
