Apart from the 35 degree temp, ..really enjoyed my first go at a Hillclimb today.

MG Car Club Newcastle has their own track, and invited any body to "come and try"'.

Note to self -  12 year old Yoky Advans just aint gunna cut it.

Was the the only old Torana there, amongst a pile if Toyota 86 / Suby BRZ and sundry Nissan R34  and a Porsche etc.

Have to say though that lots of people had to come over and say they 'love the old Torana"'

Regards

Col

not sure about that Bitchin...the drivers meeting specifically noted that the track is CAMS licenced to allow Hillclimbing.

Not licenced for drifting.

.....""...änyone who is here today to do drifting,...well you are in the wrong place...you will be asked to leave if you do""

Sure enough, after lunch a Nissan GTR type thing just couldnt help itself and a drifting show was given..followed by a "see ya later mate".

Maybe you are thinking of a different track?

Bummer..... Did ya show any of the those brz shitboxes up ?

some in front of me, and some behind.........

excuses are a dime a dozen, but seriously, I will give it another go in future with some good tyres ( reckon road tyres would have been better , but you live and learn, .......old slicky things are no good).

Hi Mark,

The track is just north of Raymond Terrace ( right next to the 'Barliegh Ranch MX track") ...I think they call it Ringwood.

p.s. correction on my behalf too...wasnt the tyres, it was a not so limited, LSD...has been overhauled and hope to throw it back in tomorrow.

Track looks great but I don't see anything qualifying as a "Hill" anywhere................ too used to seeing Mt Cotton in QLD I guess.

photo is a bit deceiving guys, that is a hill.

Bit like Bathurst on the telly I guess, .....going up the mountain looks nothing, whereas in reality it is quite steep.

No not there. Saw the photos MGCC posted on facebook and recognised the 33c from here. I have been looking for a car club with a focus on club level motorsport and so far MGCC Newcastle is at the top of my list.

Yeah Steve..its only local club level stuff,, but I like the way they do things. Seem fairly efficient. Remembering no one gets
paid, all volunteers.

CAMS has awarded them a round of the Australian Championship this year too, so they must be going OK.

They seem to have stuff at Eastern Ck (SMP) and Wakefield etc as well.

Thanks for your feedback Col. I have had a look at their calendar and I agree, they have a great variety of club level events. Wish I was in Newcastle - a local club with it's own Hill Climb track is pretty impressive. Also, I don't know if they ever run club days at King Edward Park, but a run up that hill would be awesome.

I'm thinking that KEP Hillclimb is a public road/park/dog walking area 99.99% of the time.
Only run 1 weekend a year there, lots of temporary armco etc etc is put up for the run.
I'm not sure , but I THINK its a club run on the Sat, and something more serious on the Sunday?

Regardless, an event in the middle of the city, 20m from the coast, is a winner any way you look at it.
IMHO.

Hi rally red, any kind of R spec race tyre will generally give less grip off the start of a hill climb as the tyre is made to work when it's warm not when it's cold. As a matter of fact due to the stiff construction of a R spec tyre they will indeed have less grip than a road tyre until they are warm. Yokohama now do a softer compound tyre as do Dunlop but again for a hill climb I'd recommend either a softer road tyre ie softer construction which will give more lateral grip and drive off of a cold start. Compared to a R spec tyre.
I run 18" Yokohamas on my camaro when I race it and even at winton they take a lap,or two to come on, sandown is generally 2 laps and the island it can generally take a lap and a half to really come on and grip up. Once they are up to pressure and temperature I really have to do something wrong to make them break loose.
I too believe that getting your car out on a circuit and driving to the drivers and the cars limits is one of the most special things you can do. And if your like me it becomes a drug and you want it more and you tend to find that your on road driving improves as you just cannot get the same buzz driving on the road that you can on the track. Have fun and show them modern cars what a muscle car is all about. Cheers
