Is it possible to fit Air con into a LH.

My LH had aircon, so yes, it is.

I actually have an aircon setup for an LH sitting here. Not fitted - its in the "too hard" basket.

 I had big plans, but -  you know how it goes.

Insterested in selling the set up, is it for a 6 or v8, not that it matters

I have early Commodore stuff here. The plan is to have a crack at fitting it to the LJ..................one day.

It will fit you replace the existing fan unit under the bonnet with this one and it ducts into

the car via the heater box but I have the vacuum operated box with the correct a/c controls

ill post some photo's if you want

I had a 6 cylinder LX with factory air but that car is long gone .....so to answer your question..... Yes

rodomo what model is it from and does it 'look' like it will fit?

I think it's from the Grease Slapper which was originally VB 308 SLE. As mentioned earlier, the components are smaller than the older stuff. I will be running a 12 port head as well which will be a bonus regarding compressor mounting IMHO. Dunno for sure though. Just kept it all for "One day"

Original a/c unit replaces existing blower  

Ducted into car but the internal heater box is fitted with vacuum controls to change from heat to a/c

But it is still a genuine torana box inside

Just don't know how good its going to work am having all the internal plumbing upgraded and hidden a bit better

Oh and relocating the ugly dryer cylinder

The aftermarket dealer fitted type underdash unit my LH had was a lot neater i recon.....

Your proberly right and I think you've given me the incentive to construct a system under the dash

While getting other stuff done 

Ill most likely lose glove box

Any ideas would be appreciated

I have had a few different A/C setups in my hatch over the years.

 

This is a modified heat and cool under dash that allows you to delete the fan and ducting in the engine bay.

It was made by Hot Rod Air which have gone bust.

Vintage air have a few heat & cool under dash units.

Those underdash can be bought with or without the front dash vents(like whats pictured in links) so can be hidden behind glovebox and piped up to other style of vents.

There is a red hatch ( ToranaMat69???? has LT1 engine) with a skyline 86-89 model air con setup. The centre vents are where the ash tray is. It almost lines up with the original heater hose outlet when I tried to fit it. I like this setup but I damaged it and decided I didn't want to cut that section of the dash anyway.

 

So, I went vintage air under dash and modified it similarly to Ls2lxhatch unit and it works great. However there is no fresh/ recycle. Axistr setup would be my choice if a had to do it again.

ls2lxhatch did you have any problems with frost or condensation at the base of the windscreen when using A/C seeing as those vents would have been open all the time? Got a similar unit (Ashdown Ingrams' OEX brand EVX219) and just need to do the spacer and ducting for demister, but was just worried about the frost.

Hi, I am currently in the process of fitting a Vintage Air unit into my hatch.  It's a bit early to say whether or not it will work but I think it will.  Two biggest issues (to date) have been, how to mount the evaporator behind the dash.  My son welded up a plate to the tunnel for it to bolt onto, it's not entirely vertical but I am comfortable that it will not restrict any drainage and I don't think I will need to trim the console at all for it to fit.  Did have to give the underside of the dash a few taps on the left side to fit in but nothing major.  Other issue for me is where to fit the compressor.  I'm trying to keep the bay as neat as possible so looking at getting a bracket made up that will sit it over the passenger side chassis rail. Ducting and hoses under the dash are going to be tight and this is what I'm trying to finalise now (together with drier, heater electric control valve etc.).  I'm sure with what the other guys on this site have done or can advise on (and they have a lot more knowledge than I) that you will be able to achieve something that you are happy with.
